King's Men's Lacrosse Scores Win Over Marywood
Scranton, Pa. -- Five different players scored a goal for the King's College men's lacrosse team as the Monarchs downed host Marywood 8-5 Wednesday afternoon.
The Monarchs got on the board first on a goal from
Marshall Hardy assisted by
Mike O'Brien with 6:19 to play in the first quarter. Marywood answered with a Dylan Swope goal at the 5:00 minute mark in the first.
King's took the lead back early in the second quarter when O'Brien set up
Kevin Sweeney for a goal at the 10:53 mark of the second quarter.
Kieran McMahon extended the Monarchs lead to 3-1 with an unassisted tally at 5:50.
The Pacers cut the lead to 3-2 on a Sam Trill tally with 3:08 to play in the second quarter, but the Monarchs took a 5-2 lead into the half when Sweeney scored just 5 seconds before the break assisted by A.J. Bungert.
After the half, Marywood made a comeback push scoring twice on goals by Derek Schmidt and Stephen Deiner at 11:53 and 8:54 in the third quarter respectively.
Pat Bonnot stopped the Pacer run with an unassisted tally with 8:01 left in the third.
O'Brien scored his second goal of the game at the 6:45 mark to put King's up 7-4 and Bonnot rounded out the Monarchs scoring with an unassisted goal just 40 seconds into the fourth. Trill found the back of the net with 8:47 to play, but the King's defense made the lead hold.
The Monarch offense was paced by four points by O'Brien with two goals and two assists. Sweeney and Bonnot each tallied two goals. McMahon added two points on a goal and a helper.
Brendan McCrudden picked up the win in net making 10 stops.
The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Susquehanna for a 1:00 p.m. face-off.
