KING'S MEN'S LAXERS DOMINATE FDU 12-3 ON SENIOR DAY, ONE WIN FROM CLINCHING PLAYOFF BERTH

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day by moving to within one victory of clinching a Freedom Conference Tournament berth as the Monarchs routed league rival FDU-Florham 12-3 Thursday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in Freedom Conference games while FDU slipped to 6-7 and 1-3 in league competition.

The Monarchs dominated right from the start, building a 5-1 first-period lead, then a 7-2 advantage at the break.  King's then outscored the Devils 5-1 over the second half to seal the victory.

Kevin Sweeney led the way for King's with four goals and one assist while senior Kieran McMahon added three goals, three assists, and three ground balls. Senior Mike O'Brien tallied one goal, two assists, and two ground balls while Kyle Wilk contributed one goal and one assist. 

Mike DeCarlo, Evan Lawshe, and senior Kyle Carruthers netted one goal apiece whilesenior  Billy McCullough chipped in with one assist and won four faceoffs.  Senior Jamie Downs and Billy Malone tallied a team-high seven ground balls each. A.J. Bungert had a team-high four caused turnovers and five ground balls while seniors Joe Massa added four and two respcetively.

Brendan McCrudden picked up the win in net, registering six saves.

King's outshot FDU 38-15 and had 44 ground balls compared to 34 for FDU.

King's will look to clinch a playoff berth Wednesday when the Monarchs travel to meet Arcadia University at 7:00 p.m. in Glenside.
