KING'S MEN'S LAXERS DROP 9-8 SEMI-FINAL HEARTBREAKER TO DESALES IN FOUR OVERTIMES

CENTER VALLEY -- James Guerrier scored the game winning goal with 1:22 left in the fourth overtime period as second-seeded host DeSales University pulled out an epic 9-8 four-overtime victory over third-seeded King's College in a Freedom Conference Tournament semi-final matchup Tuesday in Center Valley.  The four-overtime game stands as the longest in program history.

With the win, DeSales (6-10) moves on to Saturday's Freedom Conference title game where the Bulldogs will face top-seeded defending champion Eastern which downed fourth-seeded FDU-Florham 21-10 in the other semi-final pairing.

King's trailed 8-6 heading into the fourth quarter and used a Billy McCullough goal to bring the Monarchs to within 8-7 just 0:07 into the final frame. The Monarchs tied the score with 8:39 remaining when Kieran McMahon scored unassisted, eventually sending the game to four-minute sudden-death overtime periods.

After three scoreless overtimes, King's won the faceoff to start the fourth extra session but was unable to score when a Mike O'Brien shot was saved by DeSales keeper Matt Warnken.

DeSales would clear the ball from its zone and got off two shots, one which was blocked by a King's defender and the other which sailed wide with 1:33 on the clock. The Bulldogs maintained possession off the miss and put a sudden end to the game when Guerrier converted a pass from Nate Blevins into the winning goal with 1:22 left.

Evan Lawshe paced King's with two goals and one assist while Mike O'Brien added two goals and two ground balls. A.J. Bungert followed with one goal and one assist Kevin Sweeney, Kieran McMahon,  Kyle Wilk, and McCullough added one goal each.

Jamie Downs seven ground balls, William Pokorny had five ground balls, Chris Theodorou contributed with four ground balls and four caused turnovers. McCullough won 12-of-18 faceoffs for the Monarchs.  Pokorny added seven saves in goal.

Guerier had two goals and two assists to lead DeSales while Lance Bracale and Jacob Bernier added two goals apiece.  Warnken made 14 saves in net for the Bulldogs.
