King's Men's Laxers Pick Up Important Conference Win over Misericordia

KING'S MEN'S LAXERS PICK UP BIG LEAGUE WIN OVER MISERI

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's lacrosse team picked up its first victory in Freedom Conference play as the Monarchs posted an important 10-8 victory over visiting Misericordia University.

King's 5-6 overall and 1-2 in league play while Misericordia slipped to 4-7 and 0-2.

King's took a 2-0 lead on goals by Kieran McMahon and A.J. Bungert. But the Cougars responded with four straight to build a 4-2 advantage with 14:12 remaining in the second quarter.  

The Monarchs, however, countered with goals by O'Brien and Mike DeCarlo to knot the score at 4-4 with 3:22 left in the half. The Monarchs then picked up a huge score when Bungert struck net off a pass by O'Brien with 0:13 on the clock as the Monarchs took a 5-4 led into the break.

King's dominated the third quarter as Pat Bonnot scored unassisted, Kyle Wilk converted a pas from O'Brien, and Kevin Sweeney scored unassisted to up the Monarch advantage to 8-4 heading into the final quarter.

Misericordia cut the score to 8-5 on a Lane Kocovsky goal just 0:42 into the fourth quarter. King's, however, responded with an unassisted goal by Evan Lawshe at 7:09. The Cougars quickly countered as Andrew Reynolds scored just 0:07 later to trim the King's advantage to 9-6 with 10:02 to go.

Kyle Purvus brought the Cougars within 9-7 with an unassisted goal with 6:16 on the clock, but King's again answered as Sweeney scored off an assist from McMahon with 2:17 left to give the Monarchs a 10-7 lead. 

Misericordia used an Andrew Reynolds goal with 0:35 remaining to cut the score to 10-8 bu the Cougars would draw no closer.

King's held a 33-27 advantage in shots. Sweeney and Bungert led King's with two goals apiece while O'Brien added one goals and two assists.  McMahon and Lawshe contributed one goal and one assist apiece. Brendan McCrudden had 11 saves.

Reynolds led Misericordia with four goals while Jack Stang and Trevor Bodnar added one goal and one assist each. 

King's travels to Manhattanville Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. matchup in Purchase, NY.
