King's Men's Laxers Edged by Marywood 6-5 in Season Opener

KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE DROPS SEASON-OPENER TO MARYWOOD, 6-5
 
WILKES-BARRE -- Sam Trill scored twice, including the game with opener with 7:1 left in the contest as the visiting Marywood University men's lacrosse team posted a 6-5 victory over host King's College Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win Marywood improved to 1-1 while the Monarchs fell to 0-1.

After Marywood took a 1-0 lead just 2:19 into the game King's tied the score on an unassisted goal  by A.J. Bungert with 6:09 left in the opening quarter. The Pacers used back-to-back goals by Sam trill and Austin Maylor to build a 3-2 lead with 0:51 on the clock. But after a King's timeout, the Monarchs trimmed to lead to 3-2 on a Cam trick goal with -:12 to go in the quarter.

In the second stanza Marywood's Scott Slater pushed the lead to 4-2 with a goal at the 12:00  mark, but King's added an unassisted goal from Reilly Breig and another by Kyle Wilk with 5:38 to play as the teams entered the halftime break locked in a 4-4 tie.

In the third quarter Marywood took a 5-4 lead on a Scott Slater goal at the 11:44 mark but the Monarchs countered with unassisted score by Brock Johnson with 8:39 to go as the squads entered the fourth quarter tied at 5-5.

The score remained the same until Trill scored what proved to be the game winner with 7:11 left in the contest. The Monarchs had opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net.

King's outshot Marywood 35-17 and held a 30-26 advantage in ground balls. Pacer keeper Joe Magargal had 13 saves while Monarch goalie William Pokorny made six stops.

King's returns to the field Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home matchup against Susquehanna University.
