KING'E MEN'S LAXERS FALL 8-5 TO SCRANTON

SCRANTON -- The King's College men's soccer team built a 4-2 first quarter lead but managed only one goal the rest of the way as the Monarchs dropped a 8-5 decision to the host University of Scranton Wednesday at Fitzpatrick Field.

With the win Scranton improved to 3-3 while King's slipped to 0-4.

King's took a 2-1 lead with 3:47 left in the first quarter thanks to a pair of goals by freshman Cam Trick.  Evan Lawshe gave the Monarchs a 3-1 advantage with a score just 0:53 later. Scranton cut the lead to 3-1 on a goal from Anthony Lombardo 0:40 later but the Monarchs seized a 4-2 lead at the end of the opening period when Kyle Wilk scored at the buzzer.

After Scranton scored the only two goals of the second stanza to knot the game at 4-4. King's recaptured the lead when Kevin Sweeney scored off a Brock Johnson assist to give the Monarchs a 5-4 lead with 13:01 left in the third quarter.

But it was downhill the rests of the way as Scranton outscored King's 4-0 the rest of the way to register the victory.

King's outshot Scranton 29-27 and held a 32-30 ground ball advantage. Scranton, however, won 12 of the 16 face-offs.  Monarch goalie William Pokorny made nine saves in net while Scranton keeper Nick McKaba made eight stops.

The Monarchs return to action Friday with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Keystone College in LaPlume.
