KING'S MEN'S LAXERS IMPRESSIVE IN 10-5 ROAD WIN OVER LEB-VALANNVILLE — The King's College men's lacrosse team built a 5-4 lead at the half but outscore host LebanonValley 5-1 over the game's final 30 minutes of play as the Monarchs posted an impressive 10-5 victory Wednesday in Annville.
With the won King's improved to 2-4 with its second straight win. Lebanon valley, meanwhile, slipped to 3-3.
King's fell behind 1-0 just 0:43 into the game on a goal by Klayton Garman. The Monarchs tied the game when
Kevin Sweeney scored off an assist from
Cam Trick at the 10:23 mark. The Monrchs then tok a 2-1 lead when Trick found the back of the net off a pass from
Reilly Breig with 6:48 left in the first period.
The Flying Dutchmen responded with a goal by Cooper Gerus with 5:29 to go in the period. But King's quickly recaptured the lead When Sweeney found
Brock Johnson for a 3-2 Monarch lead with 4:09 remaining.
Lebanon valley, however, countered with another goal by Garman at 3:14 as the teams entered the second quarter deadlocked at 3-3.
King's forged ahead when
Mike DeCarlo scored off an assist from Trick with 12:46 left in the half. DeCarlo struck again 3:20 later, this time off a pass by Sweeney as the Monarchs took a 5-3 with 9:26 remaining in the opening half. But the Dutchmen closed to within 5-4 at the half when Garman struck net with just 0:01 on the clock.
King's opened up the second half with Sweeney finding Johnson at the 9:39 mark before
A.J. Bungert converted a pass from Trick just 1:32 later to give the Monarchs a 7-5 advantage with 8:07 remaining in the third quarter.
The Monarchs kept up the attack and extended the lead when Trick scored on assist from
Ryan Boornazian at the 1:43 mark to give King's a 8-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
From there the lead swelled to 9-5 after Bungert score his second goal unassisted with 10:16 left in the contest. Johnson then pushed the score to 10-5 with 6:48 remaining following a pass from
Evan Lawshe.
Trick led King's with five points on two goals and three assists Sweeney tallied four points on one goal and four assists while Johnson posted a team-high three goals. Bungert also aided the scoring attack with two goals.
Both King's and Lebanon Valley took 23 shots each but Monarch goalie
William Pokorny was outstanding in making 10 saves.
Garman led the Dutchmen with three goals.
King's returns to the field Tuesday with a 4:00 p.m. Home matchup against Hartwick Cvollege at McCarthy Stadium.
