KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE DROPS FREEDOM OPENER TO EASTERN, 14-5

ST. DAVIDS, PA --- Eric Waibel scored five of his game-high six goals in the first half to lead the three-time defending Freedom Conference champion Eastern University men's lacrosse team to a 14-5 victory over King's College in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win Eastern improves to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the Freedom Conference while King's falls to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Monarchs were able to get on the board first when Brock Johnson scored off an assist from Kyle Wilk with 9:30 left in the first quarter. Just under a minute later Waibel evened the score with his first goal of the game. King's would respond when Johnson scored his second goal of the game and then Ryan Dambach scored to give King's a 3-1 lead with 2:54 left in the first quarter.

Eastern would score the next five goals with the first four coming from Waibel to give the Eagles a 6-3 lead with 5:21 left in the second quarter. King's would end the Eagles streak of goals when Cam Trick scored off an assist from Ryan Boornazian just eight seconds later to cut the Eagles lead to 6-4 going into halftime.

In the second half the Eagles came out strong and scored the first two goals on their way to outscoring the Monarchs 8-1 in the half. David Darling scored four goals while Jake Billera had two to lead the Eagles in the second half. Kyle Wilk scored the Monarchs lone goal in the second half.

Eastern outshot King's 48-33 and held the advantage in ground balls 40-28. The Monarchs had 26 turnovers and forced Eastern to have 21. The Eagles won 12 of the 23 face-offs

Brock Johnson led King's with two goals while Ryan Dambach and Kyle Wilk had a goal and an assist each. Cam Trick scored the fifth Monarch goal. William Pokorny got the loss in goal making 16 saves.

The Eagles were led by Eric Waibel with six goals and David Darling with four goals. Grant Ferguson had two goals and two assists and Jake Billera had two goals. Nick DiPano got the win in goal making 13 saves.

The Monarchs will next be in action Wednesday April 8th when they host DeSales University in a Freedom Conference game at McCarthy Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
