KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS DELAWARE VALLEY, 12-7

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College men's lacrosse team picked up an important Freedom Conference victory over visiting Delaware Valley University 12-7 on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improves to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in league play while Delaware Valley falls to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in the Freedom.

The Monarchs got on the board first when Kevin Sweeney scored his first of three goals just over a minute into the game. After an Aggie goal tied the game Brock Johnson put the Monarchs ahead 2-1 with 8:14 left in the first quarter. Delaware Valley scored five minutes later to tie the game but A.J. Bungert put the Monarchs ahead with a goal with 2:31 left in the first quarter. Cam Trick gave King's a 4-2 lead going into halftime with the only goal scored in the second quarter.

King's came out strong in the second half scoring five goals in the first seven minutes to extend their lead to 9-2. The Aggies finally got on the board in the second half with a goal by Chris Coyle with 7:05 left in the quarter and then a goal by Seth Clauser to begin the fourth quarter. Evan Lawshe, Sweeney, and Bungert all scored in the fourth quarter for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs were able to control possession most of the game by winning 15 of the 23 face-offs. Delaware Valley outshot King's 36-31 but King's had more shots on goal. King's held a 20-16 advantage in ground balls.

Kevin Sweeney and A.J. Bungert had three goals each for the Monarchs. Brock Johnson had two goals and four assists while Cam Trick had two goals and three assists. Marshall Hardy and Evan Lawshe had a goal each to round out the scoring. William Pokorny made eight saves in goal.

Delaware Valley was led by Seth Clauser with two goals. Pat Davis, Chris Coyle, Nick DiMinno, Riley Kratzke, and Matt Brady had a goal each. In goal Jacob Tomasik made five saves.

King's will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to face local rival Misericordia University at 7:00 p.m. King's and Misericordia are currently tied for third in the Freedom Conference with two games left to play.
