King's Men's Laxers Dominate Second Half in 10-6 Conference Win Over DeSales

KING'S MEN'S LAXERS USE BIG SECOND HALF TO RALLY PAST DESALES, 10-6
 
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's lacrosse team overcame a 5-3 halftime deficit with a dominating second-half performance on both ends of the field as the Monarchs rallied for a 10-6 victory over visiting DeSales University Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium

King's, which fell to DeSales 9-8 in a four-overtime in last season's Freedom Conference Tournament semi-finals, improved to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in league play DeSales, meanwhile, slipped to 3-6 and 0-2 in Freedom Conference competition.


King's took a 1-0 lead when Brock Johnson scored off an assist by Kevin Sweeney 3:20 into the game. DeSales tied the score on a goal from Joe Neggia. The Bulldogs took a 2-1 2-1 lead when Ryan Rowse scored off a pass from Neggia with 1:58 on the clock. King's tied the score at 3-3 on an unassisted goal from A.J. Bungert at the 1:33 mark but DeSales countered with a goal by Neggia to take a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Bulldogs added to the lead with a pair of goals by Tyler Newman and Ryan Jordan to build a 5-2 lead with 6:29 left in the half. But the Monarchs got an unassisted score from Bungert at the 3:51 mark as DeSales took a 5-3 lead into the locker room break.

In the third quarter King's began to assert itself as the Monarchs scored three straight goals. Sweeney converted a pass from Kyle Wilk while Cam Trick netted back-to-back goals off respective assists by Evan Lawshe and Wilk as the Monarchs took a 6-5 lead with 9:49 remaining in the third.

After DeSales tied the game on a Rowse goal just 0:28 later, the Monarchs answered with an unassisted goal from Ryan Dambach before Trick made good on a pass from Sweeney to give the Monarchs a 8-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

From there King's put the game away when Dambach scored off an assist by Johnson at 10:00 before Boornazian tallied an unassisted goal for the final points of the day. King's defense was outstanding in the second half, limiting DeSales to just three shots in the third quarter and four in the fourth.

King's outshot DeSales 36-20 and had a 23-14 advantage in ground balls. 

Trick paced King's with three goals while Bungert and Dambach each added a pair. Sweeney finished with one goal and two assists. Monarch keeper William Pokorny made five saves in goal.

For DeSales, Neggia and Rowse led the way with two goals each. Bulldog goalie Matt Warnken had 11 saves.

The Monarchs return to the field Saturday with a 1:00 p.m matchup at FDU-Florham in Madison, NJ.
