KING'S MEN'S LAXERS FOURTH QUARTER COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN 11-8 LOSS TO MARYWOODSCRANTON, PA --- The Marywood University men's lacrosse team built a 7-2 halftime lead en route to an 11-8 victory over King's College on Wednesday afternoon in Scranton.
The Pacers improve to 2-6 with the win while the Monarchs fall to 1-5.
Stephen Deiner scored the first two goals of the game for the Pacers before
Evan Lawshe scored for the Monarchs with 11:38 left in the first quarter. Marywood increased the lead to 4-1 with two more goals before
Shawn Dickey cut the deficit to 4-2 with a man-up goal. The Pacers responded with three goals in the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter the teams alternated goals as the Pacers scored first and then
Mike DiCarlo scored for the Monarchs. After another goal by Marywood, Lawshe scored his second goal of the game to cut the lead to 9-4 with 5:37 left in the quarter. The Pacers scored with 2:38 left followed by a goal from
Brock Johnson with 1:51 left. The Pacers ended the quarter with Deiner's third goal of the game with 24 seconds left.
In the fourth quarter the Monarchs cut the lead to 11-6 just a couple minutes into the quarter on a goal by Dickey.
Ryan Matusiewicz scored off an assist from
Kyle Wilk with 8:37 left to cut the lead to four. Dickey recorded a hat trick with his third goal of the game with just over a minute left to cut the Pacer lead to 11-8 but that's as close as the Monarchs would come.
Shawn Dickey led the Monarchs with three goals and one assist while
Evan Lawshe had two goals and one assist.
Brock Johnson,
Ryan Matusiewicz, and
Mike DiCarlo scored a goal each while
Nick Maher and
Kyle Wilk had an assist each.
Matt Basile started in goal and made eight saves while
George Pfeiffer made four in the fourth quarter.
The Pacers were led by Stephen Deiner with three goals and one assist and Matt Casto with two goals and two assist. Scott Slater scored two goals for Marywood. Rick Blaine got the win in goal making nine saves.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Wednesday March 30
th when they travel to Bethlehem to take on Moravian College at 4:00 p.m.
