KING'S MEN LAXERS DOMINATE WILKES IN FIRST-EVER MEETING

EDWARDSVILLE, PA --- The King's College men's lacrosse team defeated cross-town rival Wilkes University 16-5 at Schmidt Stadium in Edwardsville on Wednesday night. The Monarchs outshot the Colonels 37-15 in the first-ever meeting between the programs.

The Monarchs improve to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play while Wilkes is now 0-10 overall and 0-2 in the MAC Freedom in their inaugural season.

Brock Johnson gave King's a 1-0 lead off an assist from Ryan Boornazian just 39 seconds into the game. Kyle Wilk scored the next two goals to extend the lead to 3-0 with 10:46 left in the first quarter. Ryan Matusiewicz scored a man-up goal with 9:03 left and a little over a minute later Brian Steiger gave the Monarchs a 5-0 lead. Boornazian extended the Monarch lead to 6-0 with a goal with 5:22 left in the quarter. Wilkes finally got on the board with a goal with 2:57 left followed by a goal from Holden Schooley as King's took a 7-1 lead after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter Johnson scored twice with a Wilkes goal in between to give the Monarchs a 9-2 lead. Brett O'Neill scored two man-up goals a little under a minute apart to extend the lead to 11-2 with 3:39 left in the half. The Colonels were able to score once more the cut the deficit to 11-3 heading into halftime.

The Colonels scored the first goal of the second half but the Monarchs responded with goals by Shawn Dickey and Johnson to take a 13-4 lead. Dickey then scored the first goal of the fourth quarter for the Monarchs to extend the lead to 14-4. Wilkes cut the lead down to nine with a goal with 9:12 left but the Monarchs got a goal from Johnson with 4:13 left and a goal from Steiger with two seconds left to set the final score.

Brock Johnson led King's with five goals while Brett O'Neill had two goals and three assists. Shawn Dickey had two goals and two assists, Ryan Boornazian scored a goal and had two assists, and Ryan Matusiewicz had a goal and an assist. Brian Steiger and Kyle Wilk scored twice each while Holden Schooley had a goal. Nick Foley won 17 out of 22 faceoffs and Derek Bowman got the win in net making two saves in one half. George Pfeiffer made two saves and Codey Prindle made a save in relief.

The Monarchs held a 37-15 shot advantage, a 36-21 advantage in ground balls, and scored on six of their eight extra man opportunities.

King's will be back in action on Saturday when they host FDU-Florham at McCarthy Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
