King's Men's Lacrosse Drops 13-7 Verdict to Susquehanna in Home Debut

KING'S MEN'S LAXERS DROP HOME DEBUT TO SUSQUEHANNA,  13-7

WILKES-BARRE -- The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team had five different players score two goals each and the River Hawks outscored host King's College 6-2 over the final 12 minutes of play to walk away with a 13-7 victory Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win Susquehanna improved to 2-0 while King's slipped to 1-1. 

Susquehanna started out quickly and built a 3-0 lead with 10:09 left in the opening quarter. The Monarchs answered when Brian Steiger scored off a Brett O'Neill assist and Ryan Boornazian struck net unassisted to cut the score to 3-2 heading into the second stanza. 

Susquehanna again scored three unanswered goals to forge ahead 6-2, but King's received goals from Brock Johnson and Kyle Wilk to pull within 6-4 at the halftime break.

After the teams traded goals to start the third quarter, the River Hawks added two scores to build a 9-5 advantage heading into he final period.  

Ryan Matusiewicz scored unassisted for King's, then Steiger found the net off an assist by Holden Schooley to bring the Monarchs to within 9-7 with 10:53 to play. 

But Susquehanna outscored King's 4-0 over the final 8:36 of the game to seal the victory.

Steiger led King's with two goals while O'Neill added one goals and two assists. Johnson, Wilk, Matusiewicz, and Boornazian contributed one goal each while Schooley finished with one assist.  George Pfeiffer registered 15 saves in goal.

Chet McLaughlin led Susquehanna with two goals and two assists while Alec Tzaneteas followed with two goals and one assist. River Hawk goalie Dylan Abplanalp posted 13 stops.

King's will return to the field Wednesday with  5:00 p.m. matchup at the University of Scranton.
