MORRISVILLE, NY -- The host Morrisville State men's lacrosse team broke open a 8-8 tie by outscoring visiting King's College 4-1 over the final 18:17 of play as the Mustangs walked away with a 12-9 victory Thursday in Morrisville, NY.

With the loss, King's slipped to 1-5 while Morrisville improved to 1-3.

The teams traded goals on the first four scores of the game to stand locked in a 2-2 tie after King's Brett O'Neill struck net with 8:10 left in the second period. But the Mustangs scored four straight goals to forge ahead 6-2 following a Logan Peters with 1:07 left in the first half.  King's regained a level of momentum when O'Neill scored for the second time in the half with 0:39 on the clock as the Monarchs pulled to within 6-3 at the break.

In the third quarter Morrisville scored first to take a 7-3 lead but the Monarchs countered with four straight goals over a 2:50 span by Mike DiCarlo, Brock Johnson, Shawn Dickey, and Kyle Wilk to knot the score at 7-7 with 6:00 remaining in the third quarter.

The Mustangs, however, would score four times to close out the period to build a 12-8 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Both defenses held firm in the final period as King's O'Neill scored the lone goal of the quarter with 11:30 to play as neither team would score again.

O'Neill led King's with four goals while DiCarlo added a pair. Dickey contributed one goal and two assists while Johnson added one goal and one assist. Johnson, a junior attack, now has 99 career points on 70 goals and 29 assists. In goal, King's George Pfeiffer made seven saves in the game.

Morrisville was paced by Peters, Chris Dovi, and Nick Geswaldo with three goals apiece. Tyler Catalfano made 15 saves for the Mustangs.

King's returns home Saturday with a 1:00 PM non-conference matchup with Bryn Athyn College at McCarthy Stadium.
