KING'S MEN'S LAXERS POST 15-6 WIN OVER BRYN ATHYN AS JOHNSON SURPASSES 100-POINT PLATEAU
WILKES-BARRE -- Junior attacker Brock Johnson became the seventh King's College men's lacrosse player to reach the 100-point plateau and the Monarchs overcame a slow start to post a 15-6 victory over visiting Bryn Athyn College Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's improved to 2-5 on the year while Bryn Athyn slipped to 2-4.
The Lions came out of the gates and struck quickly as Jon Carr found the back of the net just 0:43 into the game. The lead grew to 2-0 when Ryan Landels scored just 0:55 later.
But King's eventually woke up and got on the board at the 9:50 mark when Shawn Dickey converted a pass from Johnson into the Monarchs' first goal. The assist gave Johnson his 100th career point in his three years at King's.
But Johnson was not finished. He unassisted just 0:29 later and Jack Camp netted King's third goal in a 0:43 span off an assist from Ryan Matusiewiz to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead with 9:07 to go in the first quarter.
Bryn Mawr tied the game at 3-3 when Carr scored his second goal of the game, but King's Brian Steiger countered with an unassisted goal at the 3:35 mark as King's led 4-3 entering the second quarter.
From there the Monarchs exploded, scoring six unanswered goals while keeping the Lions off the scoreboard in the period. Johnson and Camp netted two each during the surge as King's entered the halftime break with a 10-3 advantage.
In the third quarter Bryn Mawr got back on the board on a Landels goal with 5:47 left in the period, but Johnson answered with his fourth goal of the game to give King's a 11-4 heading in the final period.
In the fourth, Bryn Mawr used goals by Jesse Frazier and Carr to trim the lead to 11-6 with 12:26 remaining, but King's squashed any hopes of a Lion comeback by scoring the final four goals of the game.
Johnson finished the game with six points on four goals and two assists and moved up to sixth-place on King's all-time scoring list with 105 points on 74 goals and 31 assists. He is also fifth in career goals with the Monarchs.
Camp and Dickey contributed three goals and one assist apiece while Steiger also added three goals. Mike DiCarlo and Brett O'Neill had one goal each while Ryan Boornazian, Ryan Gorman, and Matusiewicz each chipped in with one assist. Nick Foley won 10-of-23 faceoffs and had four ground balls while Craig Lowman posted five ground balls with two caused turnovers. In goal, Matt Basile made seven saves.
For Bryn Athyn, Carr had three goals while Landels followed with two goals and one assist. Brad DePasquale finished with 10 saves.
