MONARCH MEN'S LAX FALL AT SCRANTON, 10-4
SCRANTON, PA --- The King's College men's lacrosse team fell to host University of Scranton 10-4 on Wednesday at a windy Fitzpatrick Field in Scranton.
The Monarchs, who were facing their second straight opponent from the Landmark Conference who qualified for the 2016 conference tournament, fall to 1-2 on the young season while the Royals improve to 2-2.
Scranton scored twice in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead.
Ryan Matusiewicz got the Monarchs on the board with his fourth goal of the year with 12:40 left in the half. However the Royals responded with the next two goals to increase their lead to 4-1.
Mike DiCarlo scored his third goal of the year to cut the deficit to 4-2 with just over five minutes remaining. Scranton ended the first half scoring with another goal to take a 5-2 lead.
In the third quarter the Royals came out strong and scored the first four goals of the quarter to increase their advantage to 9-2. The Monarchs ended the run when DiCarlo found
Brock Johnson for his sixth goal of the year with 1:18 left. In the fourth quarter Scranton took advantage of a King's penalty with a man-up goal with 9:54 remaining.
Shawn Dickey scored his fourth goal of the year off an assist by Johnson to wrap up the scoring.
Mike DiCarlo led the Monarchs with a goal and an assist while grabbing four ground balls.
Brock Johnson recorded a goal and an assist with two ground balls.
Ryan Matusiewicz and
Shawn Dickey scored a goal each.
George Pfeiffer allowed nine goals in net while making 11 saves.
Matt Carfaro scored four goals to lead the Royals. Michael Elefonte scored two goals while Conor Carey had a goal and an assist. Alex Malecki got the win in goal making six saves while allowing four goals.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they host Lycoming College at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
