KING'S MEN'S LAXERS DROP 10-6 DECISION TO DEL-VAL

WILKES-BARRE -- The visiting Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team built a 2-0 first quarter lead and never trailed, holding off host King's College 10-6 in a Freedom Conference lacrosse matchup Thursday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win the Aggies improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league games while King's slipped to 4-7 and 1-2.

The Aggies scored the only two goals of the first quarter, but King's battled back to tie the score at 2-2 on goals by Brian Steiger and Shawn Dickey with 9:35 left in the half.  But the Aggies countered with two goals of their own to take a 4-2 lead into the break.

King's struck first in the third quarter when Steiger scored his second goal of the game, but the Aggies scored the next three goals to forge ahead 7-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

Delaware Valley would score a fourth consecutive goal to build a 8-3 lead with 10:50 to go. King's appeared to gain a level of momentum when Nick Maher found the back of the net to trim the lead to 8-4 with 9:01 remaining. But the Aggies countered with a goal just 1:36 later to push the score to 9-4.

The Monarchs got goals from Ryan Matusiewicz and Brock Johnson in a span of 0:31 to close to within 9-6, but the Aggies scored with 2:45 left to set the final score.

Steiger led King's with two goals and an assist while Johnson added one goal and one assist. Dickey, Maher, and Matusiewicz had one goal apiece while Ryan Boornazian chipped in with one assist. Matt Basile made 12 saves in net.

King's outshot Delaware Valley 45-35 and held a 37-34 advantage in ground balls and won 13-of-19 faceoffs. The Monarchs, however, committed 24 turnovers compared to 19 for the Aggies.

King's will be idle until Wednesday when King's travels to face Misericordia at 7:00 PM in Dallas.
