KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO EASTERN 9-7 IN LEAGUE PAIRING
ST. DAVIDS -- The King's College men's lacrosse team fell behind 8-4 after three quarters of play but a fourth quarter come-back bid fell short in a 9-7 loss to defending MAC Freedom Conference champion Eastern University Saturday in St. Davids.
With the loss King's fell to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in conference games while Eastern improved to 9-6 and 4-1.
King's built a 2-1 lead after the first period thanks to goal from Shawn Dickey and Brian Stieger, but Eastern used a 4-1 surge in the second quarter to take a 5-3 lead into the halftime break.
Eastern came out of the locker room for the third quarter and outscored the Monarchs 3-1 to built a 8-4 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Jack Camp scored for King's just 1:40 into the final period to cut the lead to 8-5. Eastern answered with its final goal with 6:28 to play. King's battled back with goals form Oman Nijmeh and Nick Foley to close to within 9-7 with 4:02 left but the Monarchs were unable to get a shot on goal the remainder of the game.
Eastern outshot King's 52-31 and held a 30-18 advantage in ground balls. Â
Dickey led King's with two goals and was the only multi-goal scorer for the Monarchs. Kyle Wilk and Brian Steiger had one goal and one assist while Brock Johnson added two assists. Foley had one goal, seven ground balls, and won 11-of-19 faceoffs. Matt Basile had 13 saves in goal for the Monarchs.
Matt Martin had two goals and two assists to pace Eastern.
King's will host DeSales Wednesday at 7:00 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
