DESALES MEN'S LACROSSE DOWN KING'S, 16-9

WILKES-BARRE -- The visiting DeSales University men's lacrosse team opened a 8-3 first half lead en route to a 16-9 victory over host King's College Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win DeSales improved to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the MAC Freedom Conference while King's fell to 4-10 and 1-5 in league games.

The Bulldogs opened a 3-1 first quarter lead. After Kyle Wilk scored 0:53 into the second half the Bulldogs scored five of the next six goals to close out the half.

The Bulldogs then built an 11-5 lead after three quarters but the Monarchs used a 3-2 spurt to close to within 13-8 after a Brian Stieger goal with 7:29 left in the fourth quarter. But DeSales outscored King's 3-1 the rest of the way.

In defeat King's Nick Foley broke King's career faceoffs won school record by surpassing the mark of 431 by Billy McCullough 2011-2014. Foley, only a junior, set another school record by winning 18 faceoffs against DeSales and now has 442 for his career.  Foley also had eight ground balls in the game. while Brock Johnson had three assists and four ground balls.

Brett O'Neill led King's with three goals and one assist while Steiger and Shawn Dickey added two goals apiece.  Matt Basile had nine saves in next for the Monarchs.

Josh Harman led DeSales with four goals and three assists. DeSales outshot King's 37-29 and held a 43-34 advantage in ground balls.

King's will close out the season Saturday with a 1:00 PM home contest against Manhattanville College.
