KING'S MEN'S LAXERS DOWN WILKES, 12-6
WILKES-BARRE -- Brock Johnson equaled the third most points scored in a game with eight points as the King's College men's lacrosse team to a 12-6 victory over visiting Wilkes University in the MAC Freedom Conference opener for both teams Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's improved to 4-5 overall while Wilkes slipped to 3-6 on the year.
The teams were tied 2-2 with 8:35 left in the first quarter before the Monarchs rattled off four straight goals to take a 5-2 lead into the halftime break. King's then pushed across three of the four goals to lead 8-3 heading into the fourth quarter. After the Colonels scored twice to trim the lead to 8-5, King's put the game away with five consecutive goals to move ahead 12-5 with 1:39 left in the contest.
Johnson led the Monarchs with three goals and five assists and accumulated eight points in a game for the second time in his career. Johnson is now one goal away from tying Lenny Fox for second-place on the Monarchs career-goal list with 82.
Shawn Dickey followed with three goals and three ground balls while Jack Camp added two goals and one assist. Brian Steiger posted two goals while Brett O'Neill contributed one goal and one assist. Mike DiCarlo chipped in with one goal for the Monarchs. In goal Matt Basile had 11 saves.
Nicholas Ruggiero led Wilkes with one goal and one assist while five other players contributed one goal. In net Carter Whittemore had seven saves.
King's plays again Sunday at FDU-Florham in Madison, NJ
