Monarchs Top Mighty Macs

WILKES-BARRE, PA (December 7, 2018) —The Monarchs swim teams both left the pool with another victory under their belts against Immaculata University. Both teams clinch their third dual meet win in a row after the men placed first at the Diamond City Invitational last month and the women notched second.
 
Starting off the meet was the 200-yard medley relays. Both men's and women's teams were able to grab a first-place finish. The women's top team consisted of Noelle Pedersen, Emily Bove, Kaelyn Gardner and Alyssa Gesek who finished in 2:02.99.
 
The men ended their race with 1:45.28, it was John Kwasizur, Chris Soutter, Bryce Groshardt and Dan Weekes who claimed the number one finish. Both teams also finished in second and third.
 
Kailie Karensky beat out Immaculata's Donte Ramos in the 1000-yard freestyle touching the wall in 12:09.02, finishing more than three minutes before Ramos.
 
The top three swimmers for the women's 200 freestyle were all Monarchs. Melina Good (2:13.87) finished first followed by Paige Molnar (2:26.18) and Laura Bogert (2:32.65).
 
Kwasizur took the top spot in the men's race touching the wall in 2:07.76 followed by teammate Andrew Johnson with 2:12.11.
 
The women's 50 free was dominated by the freshmen this dual with Corinne Smith (28.50), Sam Cote (29.67) and Kellyo Keane (30.07) claiming the top three times. The men didn't disappoint grabbing a first and third place to contribute to the scores. Tom Montyvdas finished with 24.78 and Chris Boucher third with 25.86.
 
Hannah Redding won first in a close race for the 200 individual medley finishing in 2:31.41 while Claire Coe was just a second behind for second at 2:32.47. Soutter (2:07.58), James Martin (2:15.70) and Randill De Asis (2:16.87) took spots one through three for the men's 200 IM.
 
Karensky and Smith battled for the gold in the 100 fly, Karensky just won by .06 seconds and ended up in first. The junior ended at 1:13.42 while Smith finished 1:13.49.


Shawn Parrott was able to get a first-place finish swimming a 58.33 time pushing Tyler Higgins into second place with a 59.76.
 
The women's 100 yard freestyle was also dominated by Monarchs as Gesek (1:01.44), Stephanie Tabaka ( 1:02.61) and Bove (1:04.43) finished first, second and third just seconds behind one another as Montyvdas (54.99) took first in the men's race and Johnson (58.50) second.
 
Freshmen Katelyn Duffy (1:08.92) and junior Molnar (1:14.98) finished first and second in the backstroke while Williams (59.72) took the first-place finish in the men's race.
 
In the second longest individual race of the night, the 500-yard freestyle Coe smashed the competition finishing 13 seconds before any other swimmer with 5:38.61. She was followed by teammate Gardner at 5:51.17.
 
Boucher held it down in the men's race scooping up a leading victory at 5:25.30 which was more than two minutes faster than his Immaculata opponent.
 
Cote (1:25.37) and Liz Savidge (1:27.50) finished first and second in the 100 breaststroke while Alex Schwartz (1:10.73) finished first in the men's race.
 
Another victory for both teams ended the meet with the Mighty Macs as Abbi Strennen, Kirsten Siwy, Lauren Pham and Good made up the squad that took first in the women's freestyle relay ending in 1:48.99. King's also took second and third place.
 
The same fate met the men in the 200-freestyle relay with De Asis, Kwasizur, Weekes and Groshardt finished number one at 1:32.92 as second and third place went to Monarch crews as well.

The Monarchs return home after winter break for a 1:00 p.m. meet against Arcadia University on Saturday, January 12. This will be another conference meet for King's.
