King's Women's Laxers Use Second Half Surge to Post 12-10 Victory over Potsdam in Home Opener

KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS POST 12-10 VICTORY OVER POTSDAM IN HOME DEBUT

WILKES-BARRE -- Amanda Carroll scored five goals and Anastasia Araviakis added three goals and three assists to power the King's College women's lacrosse team to hard-fought 12-10 victory over visiting Potsdam State University in the Lady Monarchs' home debut at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win King's improved to 2-0 thus far while Potsdam stands at 0-1 after its season debut.

King's jumped out to a 4-0 lead 6:03 into the first half on the strength of two goals from Carroll
and a goal and assist from Araviakis.

Potsdam battled back to tie the game at 4-4 on a Cayla O'Connor goal with 9:51 to play in the opening stanza.

After Kendra McCoy and Carroll scored for King's to push the score to 6-6, Potsdam added two more, including a buzzer beater by Meaghan Paige to send the teams into the half-time break deadlocked at 6-6.

In the second half the Bears continued its offensive attack, scoring three straight times to build a 9-6 lead after a goal by Alli Stark with 18:43 to play. But King's responded with two goals from Carroll and Araviakis and one each from Kylie McCarthy and Kaitlyn Campbell to cap a six-goal outburst with 3:39 to play as the Lady Monarchs built a 12-9 lead. 

Potsdam added the game's final score with 1:55 on the clock.

Aside from Carroll and Araviakis, McCoy finished with one goal and one assist while Mary Kate Klodarska added two assists for King's.

King's outshot Potsdam 26-17 and had 18 ground balls compared to 15 for the Bears. Potsdam goalie Katie Longamore had eight saves while King's keeper Orla Cottell posted three stops.

King's returns home Wednesday with a 4:00 PM matchup against Moravian.
