KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE POSTS 12-9 ROAD WIN OVER BRYN ATHYN
BRYN ATHYN -- Brock Johnson scored four goals and handed out two assists to power the King's College men's lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory over host Bryn Athyn College Saturday in Bryn Athyn. IN the process, Johnson became King's all-time career goal scorer with 97 for his four-year career.
With the win, King's improved to 3-4 while Bryn Athyn slipped to 1-5.
Johnson scored twice while Shawn Dickey also scored to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead after one quarter. In the second period, the Monarchs used three straight goals by Dickey, Johnson, and Brett O'Neill to forge ahead 6-2 with 7:24 to play in the half.
After Bryn Athyn scored twice, Omar Nijmeh struck net for King's with 2:18 on the clock as the Monarchs took a 7-4 lead into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, King's against came out strong with another 3-0 surge as O'Neill, Brian Steiger, and Nijmeh all scored to give the Monarchs a 10-4 lead with 5:53 to play in the period. After a goal by the Lions, Steiger countered with a goal for King's to put the Monarchs ahead 11-5 entering the final period.
Bryn Athyn attempted to rally and cut the score to 11-9 on a goal with 3:34 remaining. But Johnson sealed the win with his fourth goal of the game with just 1:35 to play.
Johnson reached his four-goal total on just five shots and surpassed the previous mark of 94 goals set by Chris Landry as a senior in 2008. Earlier in the week je also broke King's career scoring record and now has 156 points. Johnson is also six assists away from breaking King's career mark of 62 set by Ryan Thomas in 2006.
O'Neill and Nijmeh finished with two goals and one assist apiece while Dickey and Steiger also scored twice each.
Nick Foley won 15-of-25 faceoffs and posted a team-high nine ground balls. Mike O'Brien and Jacob Wrede also contributed three ground balls apiece while Seamus Boyle caused two turnovers. Matt Basile made eight saves in goal for the Monarchs.
King's outshot Bryn Athyn 31-25 while both teams had 29 ground balls
The Monarchs will be idle until April 7 when King's travels to face Manhattanville College at 1:00 PM in Purchase, NY.
