KING'S MEN'S LAXERS POST 14-7 WIN OVER KINGS
WILKES-BARRE -- The visiting University of Scranton men's lacrosse team broke open a 2-2 game after one quarter by outscoring host King's College by a combined 10-2 margin over the next two periods as the Royals posted a 14-7 victory Tuesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win Scranton improved to 5-2 while King's slipped to 1-2.
King's scored first on a Ryan Matusiewicz goal just 1:02 into the match. After Scranton tied the score on a goal by Connor Kirkwood. the Monarchs took a 2-1 lead when Omar Nijmeh struck net with 7:18 left in the opening stanza.But Michael Elefonte scored for the Royals with 3:32 on the clock to knot the game at 2-2 entering the second period.
Scranton scored two straight before Shawn Dickey found the net for the Monarchs to cut the lead to 4-3. But Scranton scored the final two goals of the period to take a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.
The Royals put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring King's 6-1 in the period to build a 12-4 entering the final 15:00 of the contest. The Monarchs outscored Scranton 3-2 in the fourth quarter but wasn't nearly enough as the Royals walked away with the victory.
Nijmeh led King's with two goals while Vinny Mascari, Matusiewicz, and Seamus Boyle had five ground balls apiece. Nick Foley won 6-of-16 faceoffs in the game for King's.
The Monarchs return to action Saturday with a 1:00 PM matchup at Lycoming College.
