KING'S MEN'S LAXERS PICK UP IMPORTANT WIN OVER DELAWARE VALLEY, JOHNSON SETS CAREER ASSIST MARK

DOYLESTOWN -- The King's College men's lacrosse team picked up a much-needed MAC Freedom Conference victory as the Monarchs won a 8-6 road decision over host Delaware Valley University Wednesday in Doylestown. In the process, King's senior attacker Brock Johnson set a new career assists mark for the Monarchs.
With the win King's improved to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in league play while Delaware Valley slipped to 3-10 and 1-3.
The Monarchs built a 5-2 halftime lead on the strength of two goals each form Jared Gambino and Brett O'Neill. King's never trailed in the game but had to hold on in the second stanza as the Aggies outscored King's 4-3 over the game's final 30 minutes of play. Delaware Valley cut the lead 7-6 with 5:08 to play but Shawn Dickey added an insurance goal for the Monarchs with 3:27 remaining to seal the victory.
Gambino finished with a career-high three goals for King's while O'Neill added two goals and one assist. Johnson, who entered the game tied for King's career mark with 62 assists, added three in the contest to move into the top slot with 65 assists.Â
Ryan Matusiewicz and Dickey both added one goal and one assist each while Nick Foley won 10-of-17 faceoffs and had a team-high seven ground balls. Matt Basile made 16 saves in net for King's.
King's will next travel to face DeSales Saturday at 1:00 PM in Center Valley.
