Late King’s Comeback Falls Short to DeSales

BULLDOGS DEFEAT MONARCHS 12-8

Center Valley, Pa. - The host DeSales Bulldogs used a strong first half, outscoring the visiting Monarchs 8-4, before pulling away with a 12-8 win this afternoon. The Monarchs were able to cut the lead to 11-8 late in the forth, but the Bulldogs quick start proved to be too much.

With the win, DeSales moves to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in MAC Freedom play, while King's slips to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in conference action.

Senior midfielder Shawn Dickey scored first for King's, and would go on to record his fourth hat trick of the season, finishing with three goals and one assist. After Dickey's opening goal, DeSales scored three unanswered before Brian Steiger found net to make the score 3-2. Three minutes of scoreless play went on until DeSales tacked on two more goals in the final ten seconds of the first to take a 5-2 lead heading into second.

The Bulldogs scored the opening two goals in the second, but King's would respond with two of their own from Jared Gambino and Omar Niijmeh.

The Monarchs picked up some momentum late in the third after two DeSales' penalties in the final minute. King's took advantage, scoring two man-up goals from Dickey at the 0:33 mark and Brett O'Neill at 0:02 to lessen the Bulldogs' lead to 10-6 heading into the final stanza.

A goal from DeSales' Bryan Weber put the Bulldogs up 11-6, but King's responded when O'Neill found Brock Johnson for a quick score. Dickey would score at 4:53 to make the score 11-8, but a Joe Neggia goal would secure the 12-8 DeSales' win late in the fourth.

Nick Foley went 11-for-22 on faceoffs, while picking up a team-high six ground balls. Matt Basile made five saves for the Monarchs.

Eric Magro and Bryan Weber led DeSales with three goals each, while Vincent Groelly had seven saves.

King's returns to action on Wednesday for a home match against Misericordia at 7 p.m.
