KING'S MEN'S LAX OPENS MAC FREEDOM SLATE WITH 13-7 ROAD WIN OVER MANHATTANVILLE
PURCHASE, NY -- The King's College men's lacrosse team raced out to a 7-2 halftime lead en route to a opening the 2018 MAC Freedom Conference slate with a 13-7 victory over host Manhattanville College Saturday in Purchase, NY.
With the win, King's improved to 4-4 overall on the year while Manhattanville slipped to 5-5.
King's took a 2-1 first quarter lead on the strength of goals by Brett O'Neill and Brock Johnson. But the Monarchs exploded in the second quarter with four unanswered goals to forge ahead 6-1 before a settling for a 7-2 lead at the break. Omar Nijmeh paced King's with two second quarter goals.
In the third quarter, the Monarchs used goals from four different players to take a 10-4 lad into the final period. Each team pushed across three goals in the final frame to set the final score.
O'Neill led the Monarchs with four goals and an assist while Nijmeh followed three goals. Johnson posted two goals, including the 99th of his career, while contributing two assists while Jared Gambino tallied one goal and two assists.
Brian Steiger and Shawn Dickey both chipped in with goals for the Monarchs. Nick Foley won 8-of-15 faceoffs and registered a team-high six ground balls. Matt Basile made 14 saves in goal for the Monarchs.
King's returns to action Wednesday with a 7:00 PM game at Wilkes.
