MONARCH MEN'S LACROSSE FALL TO SECOND-SEEDED COUGARS IN CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL

DALLAS, PA --- The King's College men's lacrosse team were unable to overcome a six-goal first quarter by second-seeded and host Misericordia University in a 15-5 loss in the semifinal round of the MAC Freedom Tournament on Wednesday night in Dallas.

The Monarchs season comes to an end with a 6-9 record. Misericordia advances to Saturday's title game at top-seeded Eastern University and improves to 14-1.

The Cougars scored six times in the first and then added four more in the second quarter to build a 10-0 lead with four minutes remaining in the half. The Monarchs got on the board with back-to-back goals by Shawn Dickey and Holden Schooley to cut the deficit to 10-2 at the break.

Misericordia came out of the locker room with their foot still on the pedal and scored the first four goals of the second half before Brett O'Neill scored for King's with five minutes remaining in the quarter. The Cougars added one more goal to increase their lead to 15-3 before Dickey scored his second goal of the game right before the quarter ended. O'Neill scored the lone goal in the fourth to set the final score.

Brett O'Neill led the Monarchs with two goals, an assist, and three ground balls. Shawn Dickey added two goals while Holden Schooley scored a goal. Brock Johnson had an assist. Matt Basile made 13 saves in goal while Cody Prindle made a save in nearly 19 minutes of relief.

The Cougars were led by Sean McSwiggan with two goals and three assists. Patrick Kellish added two goals and two assists while Brandon Winslow scored three goals. Matthew Beck got the win in goal making six saves in the first three quarters. Antonio Whyte made five saves in the fourth quarter.

Misericordia outshot the Monarchs 50-24 including 16-1 in the first quarter. Both teams won 12 face-offs.

Despite the loss the Monarchs had a very successful season where they surprised the rest of the conference by earning the third seed in the conference tournament. King's was picked to finish seventh out of eight teams in the preseason coaches' poll. Brock Johnson's illustrious career comes to an end as he will graduate as one of the best players in program history. The attacker finishes his career atop the school record book with 173 points on 104 goals and 69 assists. Nick Foley finishes his career as the best face-off specialist in program history winning 604 face-offs and picking up a program record 288 ground balls. The senior class also reached the postseason for the first time since they were freshman in 2015.
