Monarch Football Game Notes – Stevenson

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 20, 2018) – The King's College football team will look to use the momentum generated from last week's 65-48 victory over Hartwick College this weekend, hosting Stevenson University for Homecoming Weekend in McCarthy Stadium Saturday. King's and Stevenson are both coming off wins in Week 3 of the season, as King's totaled almost 600 yards of offense with Stevenson topping Albright College last week 50-21.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs posted the second-most points in a half against Hartwick College last weekend, while chalking up 353 ground yards offensively in the victory. King's got four made field goals from its freshman kicker Jack Barreras, and the opportunistic defensive unit posted five turnovers including a scoop and score off a Mando Sallavanti sack by Yusef Wheeler. It was King's first defensive touchdown since the 2014 season.

After the Moravian game, we did some good things but some thing's we had to improve upon, getting some more experience and the beauty of the bye was we got some time to do those things.   • Running back Jordan Downes, who was recently named as a Single Digit Tough player and will now wear No. 3, is 14th in the nation in all-purpose hards per game with 178.0
  • Sophomore quarterback Gabe Boccella is currently third in the MAC in passing yards per completion with 12.59.
  • King's is currently first in the MAC and 18th nationally in third down conversion rate, picking up third downs at a 53.3 percent rate.
  • The Monarchs lead the MAC in total offense right now, posting 418 yards per game.
  • The rushing attack for King's is lethal through the first two games, ranking first in the MAC and 33rd nationally, chewing up 228.0 yards per game on the ground.
  • Sophomore Mando Sallavanti has been around the ball defensively, forcing two fumbles, which leads the MAC. He is also second in the MAC in solo tackles with 6.5 per game.
  • Junior defensive back Mikal Butler posted the King's first interception of the season, his second of his career.

  • The four field goals by Jack Barreras last week against Hartwick was the second-most in a game for King's, topped only by the five from Ryan Cain in 2010 against Lebanon Valley.
  • Freshman defensive back Dhedhus Anumgba is third in the MAC in passes defended per game with 1.5 a contest.
  • After research, the 65-point increase by a team after a shutout the week before is a NCAA record.
The Book On The Mustangs (2-1, 1-0 MAC):
  • Stevenson is coming off a big win over Albright College last week, scoring all 28 points in the second half to pull away after leading 22-21 at the half.
  • The Mustangs have been strong in the red zone this season, converting points on all nine of their drives that entered inside the 20.
  • Stevenson also doesn't turn the ball over regularly, with just two turnovers through three weeks of action.
  • The Mustangs currently rank second in the MAC in passing efficiency with a 149.95 rate, while their total offense of 388 yards per game is also second in the conference.
  • Quarterback Dan Williams is second in the conference in passing with a rating of 136.0.
  • The receiver corps is led by Sebastien Vainqueur, who has posted 193 yards receiving, which is third-most in the MAC.
  • Reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Week Hanif Jones is second in the conference in picks with two.
  • The Mustangs have struggled at times to get off the field on third down, as Stevenson is last in the conference in 3rd Down defense, allowing teams to continue drives at a 53.3 percent rate.

Against Stevenson All-Time: Formerly named Villa Julie College, Stevenson University holds a 4-3 all-time mark against the Monarchs. Stevenson has taken the last four meetings with King's, including a 38-9 win last year for the Mustangs in Owings Mill, Md. King's last win in the series came in 2013, a 31-24 win at Stevenson.

Up Next: King's will head back out on the road next weekend, traveling to Williamsport, PA and Lycoming College for a 1 p.m. kickoff in MAC action.
