WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 26, 2019) — King's College faced Misericordia University in an electrifying Middle Atlantic Conference dual. The Monarch men topped the Cougars 145-113 while the women lost their lead but finished with a close 137-120. The men are now 7-3, 4-1 while the women post up a 4-6, 2-3 record.

It was the Monarch women A-team that kicked off the meet with a win. Earning 11 points for King's in the 200-yard medley relay was
Liz Savidge, Kirsten Siwy,
Kaelyn Gardner and
Claire Coe. The squad finished with a 1:52.72 over the Cougars.
Â
The men echoed with a first-place finish of their own in their respective race with a 1:38.54 by
Bryce Groshardt,
Rhyce Hammaker, Chris Dionne and
Dan Weekes.

Freshman
Hannah Redding and junior
Kailie Karensky took first and second place in the 1650-yard freestyle. Redding finished in 19:54.90 while Karensky 20:17.31.
Chris Soutter and
Tyler Higgins took first and second in the men's race as well, Soutter earning nine points for the Monarchs with a 17:33.70 and Higgins 17:44.98.

In the 200-yard free Coe finished second just two seconds behind with a 2:05.61 but three seconds ahead of the third-place swimmer. Groshardt touched first in the men's race at 1:49.94 and Dionne wasn't far behind in second with a 1:51.34.

In a nail biter, Savidge (1:01.79) showed off her best event in the 100-backstroke earning first place while
Noelle Pedersen (1:05.92) left with the third-place finish.
Joel Williams was able to clinch a third-place finish I the men's race with a time of 59.86.

Junior Siwy touched the wall in 1:09.14 good enough to earn her the second-place finish in the 100-yard breast. Hammaker finished in 1:00.68 for the men adding another first-place finish to his meet accomplishments.

For the women's 200-yard fly Gardner touched in 2:19.71 for the top spot two seconds ahead of her Misericordia opponent.
Alyssa Gesek ended with third at 2:30.47.
Tom Montvydas (2:09.80) was second in the men's 200-fly less than a second behind the first-place finisher.
James Martin was third with 2:14.08.

Senior
Melina Good added four points to King's coming in second in the 50 free with a 26.71 time while Weekes dominated in the men's race with a 21.90 time. Dionne added a third-place finish as well with a time of 22.89.
Coe contributed another top three performance in the 100 free with a time of 57.37 while Groshardt (48.46) took the top spot in the men's race and Weekes (49.49) third.

In the women's 200 backstroke, Savidge touched the wall in 2:18.29 earning her the second-place finish and Pedersen (2:20.37) took third. In the men's, Williams ended in second with a 2:14.08 time.

Siwy took second in the 200 breaststroke at 2:30.48 while
Kris Boxter (2:16.85) and Hammaker (2:24.24) took second and third respectively for the men.

Redding had another exceptional long-distance swim, posting a 5:49.88 in the 500-yard freestyle. She clinched the second-place finish and another four points for King's. Soutter (5:00.69) and Higgins (5:09.25) also took second and third again for along swim.

It was the third first-place finish for Gardner when she earned a 1:02.79 in the women's 100-fly and Montvydas took another second place with a 56.35 in the men's 100-fly.

The women's 200 individual medley was another close race as Siwy touched one second behind Misericordia's swimmer, her 2:18.22 put her in second for the race. Savidge ended in third with a 2:24.18.

Hammaker was two seconds behind with a 2:06.27 for the men's race also earning a second and Groshardt took third at 2:06.55.

King's women ended the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Coe,
Abbi Strennen, Redding and Good swam hard for a 1:46.88 time.

The men ended with a first and third finish in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay. Martin, Weekes,
Randill de Asis and Dionne took first with a 1:30.01 and the team of Montvydas, Soutter, Higgins and Williams took third at 1:38.22,

The Monarchs return home to host Wilkes University in the Scandlon Pool at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2. The seniors of King's swimming will also be honored for Senior Day.
