Monarch Women’s Basketball Game Notes – Misericordia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 11, 2019) – The King's College women's basketball team will once again look to lock up a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) playoff ticket Tuesday, traveling the short ride up the hill to Misericordia University. King' has dropped its last two games, falling by three to Wilkes University Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.

Last Time Out: Wilkes University led from start to finish Saturday afternoon, knocking off the King's College women's basketball team 58-55 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play from the Marts Center. The two teams finished a weekend of joint efforts to raise money for the Kay Yow Breast Cancer Fund, as both teams accepted donations and wore pink for the game. 

The Monarchs were paced by the 19 points from Alexis Steeber, who finished 8-of-19 from the floor while adding six rebounds as well. Mackenzie Yori led the team with three steals, contributing 10 points, and Dippre finished with 10 points and five rebounds before fouling out. Samantha Rajza also chalked up seven points and five points, and junior Sara Wolbert tied her career-high for rebounds with 10.

King's shot better in the fourth, connecting on 46.2 percent from the field, but finished just 19-of-62 from the floor (30.6 percent).

The Colonels got a double-double from Giordano of 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Kelley also chalked up 18 points and seven boards. Wilkes was 44.4 percent from downtown (8-18), which ended up being the difference.

A Look At The Monarchs (12-11, 6-6 MAC Freedom):
  • King's posted just 55 points on Saturday at Wilkes, the lowest point total for the Monarchs since scoring 55 in a home loss to Lycoming College. King's responded to that Lycoming game by scoring over 70 points in four of its next five.
  • The Monarchs will look to get back to the free throw line this week, as King's earned just 38 attempts over the last two games. King's is making 71.7 percent from the line, third in the conference.
  • KC still ranks in the top three in the conference in turnover ratio, forcing 2.52 more turnovers per game than committing.
  • Junior Rebecca Prociak is second in the MAC Freedom in points per game with 17.0, as her 132 made free throws lead the conference and rank in the top 20 nationally. She's one of two players averaging a double-double in the league, joining Regie Robinson of Eastern.
  • Junior Mackenzie Yori is right at 15.0 points per game, ranking fourth in the conference in made three-pointers with 46.
  • Senior Alexis Steeber is right behind her in scoring in the conference with 14.8 points per game, making the second-most field goals in the MAC Freedom this year with 137. Steeber sits with 956 points for her career.
  • Steeber has gone 100 percent from the line in five of the last six games in which she's earned a free throw attempt.
  • Junior Sara Wolbert tied her career-high for rebounds in a game on Saturday at Wilkes with 10.
  • Senior Lindsey Dippre posted 10 points on Saturday at Wilkes, the most for the senior since chalking up 11 against FDU-Florham.
  • Freshman Samantha Rajza has posted five games in double figures over her last seven, and has at least one assist in eight of her last nine.
A Look At The Cougars (19-4, 8-4 MAC Freedom):
  • The Cougars are coming off a 21-point loss to DeSales University on Saturday, as Misericordia has alternated wins and losses since falling to King's for their first loss of the season back on January 23.
  • Misericordia is averaging 72.2 points per game this year, second in the MAC Freedom, while also allowing just 53.5 a night.
  • The Cougars hit the glass hard, leading the conference in total rebounding offense with 51.1 rebounds per game. Their rebounding margin of 14.1 per game is in the top five in NCAA Division III.
  • Misericordia is second in the conference in total blocks with 107, and ranks second in assists per game with 16.78.
  • The Cougars are paced by the 13.6 points per game from Japriya Carroll, which ranks 10th in the conference. She also shoots 38.4 percent from deep, second-best in the MAC Freedom.
  • Rachel Carmody adds 11.9 points and a team-leading 9.1 rebounds per game, while Tessa Zamolyi also has contributed 11.5 points a night.
  • Paige Walpole is eighth in the MAC Freedom in rebounding with 7.2 a game, and her 38 blocks are the second-most in the league.
  • Erica Haefele dishes out 2.5 assists per game, while teammate Leanne Forsyth also averages 2.5 helpers a night.
  • Misericordia is ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic Regional Rankings, behind only DeSales University. 
Against Misericordia: King's knocked the Cougars from the ranks of the unbeaten earlier this year, posting an 80-70 win over Misericordia. King's is 13-10 against the Cougars since the start of the 2008 season, but King's is 3-3 on the road in the series over the last six seasons.

Up Next: King's will honor Steeber and Dippre Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in McGrane Gymnasium in the regular season finale against Manhattanville College for Senior Day.
