WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 2, 2019) – King's College celebrated senior day against Wilkes University in their last conference meet before heading to the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships in two weeks. The Monarchs breezed by the Colonels with the women outscoring their opponents 138-41 and the men 133-72. The women finish the regular season 5-6 overall with 3-3 in the MAC while the men end 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the MAC.

Dan Weekes all had an amazing showing in their last home competition.

The dual opened with the women's 200 medley relay which was won by King's team of
Noelle Pedersen, Abbi Strennen,
Kaelyn Gardner and
Claire Coe with a time of 1:59.59. Senior Pham was in the second-place team along with
Meghan Whitt,
Emily Bove and
Corinne Smith that finished in 2:06.12.

The men's team finished second at 1:42.99 and consisted of
Joel Williams,
Kris Boxter,
Tom Montvydas and senior Hammaker.

It was between Monarch's for the women's leg of the 1000 freestyle between
Hannah Redding and
Kailie Karensky. Freshman Redding won by about 13 seconds versus veteran Karensky finshing with a 11:51.80.

Senior Soutter touched the wall in 10:06.15 earning him first place and showcasing why he will leave as the best long-distance swimmer in King's history.
Tyler Higgins clinched second with a time of 10:23.23.

Alyssa Gesek beat out Wilkes swimmer Julia Rostron in the 200 free by eight seconds grabbing first place and a 2:11.61 time.
Chris Dionne took the top spot for the men's race at 1:50.49. Senior De Asis ended third at 1:55.76.

King's swimmers were able to dominate the women's 50 freestyle taking all top three finishes. Coe (26.64), Good (26.82) and Strennen (27.51) finished one through three respectively. Weekes remains the best sprinter in Monarch history with another first-place finish in the men's race at just 21.98 while
James Martin contributed a third-place end with 22.82.

For the 200 IM Siwy tool first in the women's leg at 2:16.67 and
Liz Savidge finished third at 2:21.81. Groshardt grabbed his first top finish of the day in the men's 200 IM touching the wall in 2:00.38. Hammaker wasn't far behind taking third at 2:06.40.

Gardner solidified another win and nine points for the Monarchs after winning the 200 butterfly in 2:21.29 while Montvydas (2:08.11) finished second and Martin (2:13.29) third in the men's race.

Savidge (58.44), Good (59.07) and Pedersen (1:03.51) clinched the first through third finishes in the women's 100 freestyle while Weekes (49.36) and Dionne (49.84) held down the first and second for the men. Senior De Asis earned fifth in his last race as Monarch with a 52.00.

Freshman
Kate Duffy swam the 200 backstroke and touched the wall in 2:27.62, good enough to earn her second while Whitt finished third at 2:28.07 and senior Pham ended fourth at 2:35.34. Groshardt won the men's 200 back in 2:05.86 out swimming his competition by at least six seconds. Williams (2:12.54) took third while senior Kwasizur finished fourth at 2:14.61.

It was Siwy and Redding for the 500 free in which Siwy won by six seconds with a time of 5:36.12, Redding ended at 5:42.99. Soutter took another first-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:03.52 and Higgins finished with another third at 5:05.74

In the 200-breaststroke sophomore Bove took the top spot in 2:46.62 and contributed nine points to the Monarchs while
Kris Boxter ended first for the men in 2:17.84. Senior Hammaker was third in 2:25.88.

In the last event of the meet, King's women took the top spot in the 200-freestyle relay. Siwy and Good were a part of the winning team along with freshmen standouts Savidge and Coe, the women finished with a time of 1:46.74. King's also had the team of Strennen,
Stephanie Tabaka, Redding and Gardner come in third at 1:50.49.

The team of Weekes, Dionne, Martin and Groshardt ended first with the men's 200-freestyle relay at a time of 1:27.99. Soutter was on the team that finished fourth with a time of 1:39.28 while Kwasizur's relay finished sixth at 1:43.69.

King's looks to round out the season competing at the 2019 MAC Swimming Championships that will begin February 14 and go through February 17 in York, Pa.
