Edoukou, Forgash, Ni Take Home Gold At West Chester

WEST CHESTER, PA (March 23, 2019) The King's College men's outdoor track and field team had a great day winning three events at the season-opening Golden Ram Invitational from a cold and windy John A. Farrell Stadium on the campus of West Chester University on Saturday in West Chester.

There was no team scoring at the meet.

On the Track
100 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou won the first of four heats and finished second overall out of 30 sprinters with a MAC qualifying time of 11.28 seconds. The sophomore outkicked Gwynedd Mercy senior Rashid Marrow who finished fourth overall with a time of 11.58 seconds. Ian McAleer of Connecticut College won the second heat with the day's best time of 11.25 seconds. Five of the top ten times were in heat two. Chibuikem Anyachebelu was third in the third heat and 18th overall with a time of 12.28 seconds. Scranton junior Keyser Leepier won the heat in 11.92 seconds. Kevin Wrobleski and James Powell both were in the fourth heat with five Scranton runners. Wrobleski ran a time of 13.31 seconds to finish sixth in the heat while Powell ran a career best 13.45 seconds.

200 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou topped the field of 34 while also just missing the school record as the sophomore ran a MAC qualifying time of 22.82 seconds in the first of five heats. Edoukou equaled his career best time which is just 0.01 seconds off the school record time to defeat WCU freshman Trey McGarrah who finished second in 23.16 seconds. Cole Horan made his collegiate outdoor debut and ran 24.97 seconds to finish fourth in the fourth heat. Chibuikem Anyachebelu was sixth in the heat with a time of 25.14 seconds. Sebastian Cox of Connecticut College won the heat in 24.44 seconds.

400 Meter Dash
Mitchell Forgash was King's second event winner on the day as he ran a school record and MAC qualifying time of 50.17 seconds in the first of four heats. He broke the two-year old record of 53.60 seconds that was previously held by Nick Cionci from the season-opening Ursinus Invitational in 2017. Forgash outkicked fellow freshmen Khalil Lau-Dickinson from Goldey-Beacom and Orion Frazier from West Chester who had times of 50.30 seconds and 50.34 seconds in the heat. There were 24 runners in the field with the majority being freshmen.

800 Meter Run
Daniel Michels finished sixth in the third of four heats with a time of 2:19.35 while Hude finished behind him in the heat with a time of 2:27.69. Scranton freshman Nick Socci won the heat in 2:06.07. Greg Jaindl of Moravian had the best time of the day in heat one at 1:56.40. Matt Kinback of Scranton was second in 1:56.80.

1500 Meter Run
Daniel Michels was eighth in the second of three heats with a time of 4:39.30. Scranton sophomore Zach Mead won the heat in 4:19.85. Steffen Hude ran 5:00.90 to finish seventh in the third heat. GMU sophomore Chris Laskowski won the heat in 4:39.70. Ben Vazquez of Connecticut College won heat one in 4:07.43 while Jefferson senior Ethan Fadale was second in 4:11.67.

5000 Meters
Michael Duncklee had a time of 17:04.64 to finish 14th out of 23. Matt Schoch ran 17:52.94 to finish 22nd. Scranton sophomore Zachary Gutenkunst won the race in 16:04.00 as he defeated Bryce Gable of West Chester who ran 16:06.17.
 
Field Events
Pole Vault
Freshmen Kevin Wrobleski and Zachary Matson each cleared 3.25 meters (10'8") to finish in a thre-way tie for third out of five jumpers. Wrobleski cleared his first attempt at 3.10 meters and 3.25 meters before missing all three tries at 3.40 meters. Matson hit 3.10 meters on his first attempt too, but it took him three jumps to clear 3.25 meters before missing all three attempts at 3.40 meters. WCU freshman had the best height at 4.15 meters (13'7.25") while Moravian freshman Maxwell Schuman was second at 3.55 meters (11'7.75").

Long Jump
Matthew Nelson qualified for MACs while Cole Horan just missed the qualifying mark as the duo finished third and fourth out of 13. Nelson had a mark of 5.94 meters (19'6") on his first jump while Horan recorded a mark of 5.92 meters (19'5.25") on his sixth. Nelson also recorded marks of 5.60 meters, 5.88 meters, 5.52 meters, 5.88 meters, and 5.64 meters. Horan had jumps of 5.57 meters, 5.59 meters, 5.81 meters, 5.62 meters, and 5.65 meters before hitting his best mark of the day. Mark Merli of Scranton had the best jump of the day at 6.10 meters (20'0.25") on his sixth attempt while WCU freshman Zyon Terry was second at 6.07 meters (19'11) on his second.

Triple Jump
Matthew Nelson qualified for MACs with a mark of 12.03 meters (39'5.75") on his sixth attempt to finish fourth of five jumpers. He recorded marks of 11.35 meters, 11.77 meters, and 11.77 meters on his first three jumps. After fouling on his first jump of the finals he hit 11.75 meters and 12.03 meters on his final two attempts. Cole Horan fouled on all three of his jumps. Joe McCoy of GMU won with a jump of 12.96 meters (42'6.25") on his second attempt while Goldey-Beacom freshman Alex Eaddy was second with a mark of 12.75 meters (41'10") on his second.

Shot Put
Justin Le Cadre broke the school record and finished second out of 15 with a MAC qualifying throw of 13.43 meters (44'0.75") on his second toss of the day. The freshman beat the previous school record mark of 13.25 meters by Matthew Vines at Ursinus two years ago. Le Cadre started with a throw of 12.50 meters and hit 13.09 meters on his third attempt before fouling on all three in the finals. King-Shakim Rose was third with a MAC qualifying mark of 12.91 meters (42'4.25") on his third toss. Rose started with a throw of 12.65 meters before fouling on his second attempt. He also fouled on his first two attempts during the finals before hitting 12.04 meters in his final toss. Moravian sophomore Shane Mastro won with a mark of 14.45 meters (47'5") on his third attempt.

Discus
Izuchukwu Mozie made his collegiate debut with a third-place finish and top D3 finisher out of 20 throwers with a MAC qualifying toss of 40.31 meters (132'3") on his final toss of the day. His first five throws went for 38.86 meters, 40.18 meters, 39.52 meters, 37.10 meters, and a foul. King-Shakim Rose and Jackie Ni were sixth and seventh also with MAC qualifying throws. Rose had a mark of 39.79 meters (130'6") on his second toss. He fouled on his third and fifth throws while recording marks of 37.35 meters, 34.25 meters, and 38.52 meters. Ni hit 35.93 meters (117'10") on his final toss of the day. He started with marks of 34.52 meters and 34.75 meters before fouling on his next two attempts. He hit 33.82 meters on his fifth toss. Justin Le Cadre was unable to record a mark as the freshman fouled on all three of his attempts. WCU junior Matthew Hook threw 40.97 meters (134'5") on his first throw to edge Goldey-Beacom freshman Elijiah Taylor who threw 40.63 meters (133'4") on his sixth.

Hammer
Jackie Ni topped the field of 12 with a career best and MAC qualifying mark of 47.54 meters (156'0") on his third toss. The sophomore hit 45.68 meters on his first throw and fouled on his other four attempts. King-Shakim Rose also qualified for MACs and finished eighth with a toss of 35.59 meters (116'9") on his third attempt. After fouling on his first two throws and his fourth, the freshman recorded marks of 34.23 meters and 32.87 meters on his final two attempts. Justin Le Cadre finished ninth with a mark of 31.16 meters (102'3") on his first throw of the day. He fouled on his other two attempts. Ralph Casper of West Chester was second with a mark of 47.32 meters (155'3") on his fifth attempt.
 
King's will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Susquehanna to compete in the Jim Taylor Invitational starting at 9 AM from Amos Alonzo Stagg Field.
