SELINSGROVE, PA (March 30, 2019) – The King's College men's outdoor track and field team had another strong performance to begin the year at Saturday's Jim Taylor Invitational on the campus of Susquehanna University. Teams from all three NCAA divisions competed at the invitational.
There was no team scoring at the meet.
On the Track
100 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou had a wind-aided time of 11.13 seconds which is his career best time to finish sixth out of 74. The sophomore was third in the 11th of 12 heats. Edoukou's previous best time of 11.18 seconds will stay the school record since the wind was above 2.0 for the heat. Eric Gregory won the heat with the best time of the day at 10.82 seconds. CJ Anderson of Lock Haven was second in 10.89 seconds.
Chibuikem Anyachebelu was fourth in the fifth heat with a time of 12.33 seconds. Connor Sharp of Scranton won the heat in 11.95 seconds.
James Powell was fifth in the third section with a career best time of 13.30 seconds. Gallaudet freshman Austin Bates won the heat in 12.47 seconds.
200 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou finished third in the 10th of 11 heats and seventh overall out of 71 runners with a time of 22.95 seconds. Saint Francis freshman Richard Gilchrist won the heat in 22.64 seconds while his senior teammate Jay Stone had the best time of the day in the 11th heat at 21.74 seconds. Gallaudet freshman Eric Gregory was second in 21.90 seconds.
Kris Boxter ran 26.29 seconds to finish fifth in the first heat in his collegiate debut finishing a couple seconds ahead of
James Powell who ran 28.06 seconds. Brady Perry of Gallaudet won the heat in 23.60 seconds.
800 Meter Run
Mitchell Forgash broke two minutes while lowering the school record by nearly eight seconds to finish seventh out of 62. The freshman ran a MAC qualifying time of 1:58.07 which beats
Michael Havrilla's previous record of 2:05.55 ran last year at York. He was sixth in the sixth of six heats. Jeremie Venne of Saint Francis won in 1:52.22 while Scranton sophomore Matt Kinback was second in 1:55.11.
Daniel Michels ran nine seconds faster than last week to finish fifth in the second heat with a career best time of 2:10.88.
Steffen Hude was ninth in the heat running 13 seconds faster than last week with a time of 2:14.84. York freshman Blake Nelson won the heat in 2:08.22.
1500 Meter Run
Matt Schoch was 10th in the second of five heats with a career best time of 4:41.79. The sophomore ran six seconds faster than his previous best time. Russell Curtis, a runner for the Penn State Club team won the heat in 4:26.89 while Marywood freshman Michael Kelly was second in 4:27.04. Frostburg State senior Robert Romano topped the field of 59 with a time of 3:56.49. He was the only one to break four minutes as Saint Francis sophomore Colin Kelly was second in 4:03.43.
3000 Meter Steeplechase
Senior
Michael Duncklee had a time of 11:19.21 to finish 15th of 18 competitors. Bucknell sophomore Riley Gardner was first in 9:51.62 edging Lock Haven sophomore John Davern who finished in 9:52.47. Scranton freshman Shane McKeon was third in 9:57.89.
4x400 Meter Relay
The Monarch team of
Mitchell Forgash,
Kris Boxter,
Steffen Hude, and
Daniel Michels ran 3:46.55 to finish fifth in the second of four heats. Frostburg State won the heat in 3:28.20 to finish fourth overall out of 25. Saint Francis won with a time of 3:22.35, Bucknell was second in 3:26.18, and Elizabethtown was third in 3:26.82.
Field Events
Pole Vault
Zachary Matson had the best mark of his collegiate career at a height of 3.45 meters (11'3.75"). It took the freshman three attempts to clear 3.00 meters, but he easily cleared 3.15 meters and 3.30 meters on his first attempts. He hit 3.45 meters on his second try before missing all three tries at 3.60 meters. Saint Francis had the top two vaulters in freshmen Tyler Delozier and Bryan Abel. Delozier cleared 4.50 meters (14'9") while Abel cleared 4.35 meters (14'3.25"). Susquehanna freshman Keefer Goodspeed had the best Division III height at 4.05 meters (13'3.5") to finish fourth overall.
Long Jump
Matthew Nelson jumped 5.86 meters (19'2.75") on his third and final attempt to finish 19th out of 33. The sophomore hit distances of 5.79 meters and 5.82 meters on his first two jumps. Frostburg State senior Shamar Nelson won with a jump of 6.90 meters (22'7.75") on his first attempt while Alex White of Penn State Harrisburg was second with a mark of 6.85 meters (22'5.75") on his first jump.
Shot Put
Justin Le Cadre finished 14th out of 40 with a mark of 12.16 meters (39'10.75") on his third toss of the day. The freshman fouled on his other two attempts. Derek Blasko of Southern Virginia had the best mark at 15.26 meters (50'0.75") on his fourth toss. Bucknell junior Hayden Lindsey was second with a mark of 14.82 meters (48'7.5") on his third throw.
Discus
Izuchukwu Mozie had a season best mark of 40.65 meters (133'4") on his third throw to finish ninth out of 41. Mozie hit 35.98 meter on his first toss and fouled on his second. In the finals he fouled on his first two attempts before recording a mark of 38.19 meters on his final toss.
Justin Le Cadre recorded a MAC qualifying mark of 37.46 meters (122'11") on his second attempt to finish 15th. The freshman fouled on his first attempt and hit 35,24 meters on his third. Penn State Harrisburg senior Cameron Yon had the best toss in the field at 56.27 meters (184'7") on his second attempt while Marcus Disbrow of LHU was second with a mark of 46.46 meters (152'5") on his fourth toss.
Hammer
On Friday afternoon
Jackie Ni recorded another career best mark of 48.18 meters (158'1") on his fifth throw to finish sixth out of 33. The sophomore threw 45.46 meters on his first toss of the day to qualify for finals. He fouled on three consecutive throws before hitting his best mark. He then fouled on his final attempt.
King-Shakim Rose also had a career best mark as the freshman had a mark of 39.23 meters (128'8") on his second attempt. The freshman fouled on his other two tries. Marcus Disbrow of Lock Haven won with a toss of 58.93 meters (193'4") on his third attempt while SFU senior Benjamin Ross was second with a mark of 55.36 meters (181'7") on his first toss. Frostburg State junior John Kerns was third overall and the best D3 finisher at 50.95 meters (167'2") on his third attempt.
King's will next make the short trip up to La Plume on Friday to compete in the NEPA Challenge hosted by Keystone College.
