WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 3, 2019) – The Monarchs will play their only game of the King's College spring break session on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Western Connecticut State University for a non-conference contest with the Colonials. King's is in search of its first win of the season, having dropped a tight 11-8 decision to Lycoming College on Saturday afternoon in McCarthy Stadium.

Last Time Out: Visiting Lycoming College scored six straight goals after halftime to post an 11-8, come-from-behind win over the hosting King's College men's lacrosse team in non-conference action from Betzler Field on McCarthy Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Brian Steiger finished with three goals on a team-high eight shots, registering his sixth collegiate hat trick Saturday. Sophomore
Gabe Vansuch finished with two goals, and has now scored two or more goals in all four games for the Monarchs.
Trevor Douenias was solid on face-offs, winning 11-of-21 on the day while adding four ground balls.
Defender Sheamus Boyle finished with a team-high four caused turnovers on Saturday, adding four ground balls, and
Alec Martin posted five ground balls as well. Senior defender
Mike McDougal tallied three ground balls and a caused turnover, while
Ryan Matusiewicz also finished with four loose ball pickups in addition to a forced giveaway. Senior
Matt Basile posted nine saves in the loss, as King's (0-4) was outshot 38-23 on the afternoon.
A Look At The Monarchs (0-3, 0-0 MAC Freedom):
- King's is still looking for its first win of the 2019 season, but the Monarchs have been trending up and have also gotten some reinforcements back from early-season injuries which should help.
- Senior Omar Nijmeh is one of the players that has returned to action for the Monarchs, as he scored his first goal of the season on Saturday against Lycoming on a nice dodge and shot.
- Senior Brian Steiger got his offensive game going, posting his first three goals of the season against Lycoming.
- The Monarchs have been getting shots this season, but their percentage on scoring is only sixth in the conference at 20.7 percent.
- King's ranks second in the conference in total ground balls with 123, led by face-off specialist Trevor Douenias and his 15 ground balls. Alec Martin and goalkeeper Matt Basile each have 13 loose ball pick-ups as well.
- Sophomore Gabe Vansuch has been extremely consistent for the Monarchs this season, tallying two or more goals in all four games this season. He is also scoring on 52.9 percent of his shot attempts.
- Junior Jared Gambino has posted five goals and two assists this season, riding a four-game point streak to start the season. He also is second on the team in shot attempts with 18.
- Douenias has been stellar in face-offs lately, as the sophomore has won over 50 percent in each of his last two games.
- Basile leads the conference in saves per game so far with 17.25, while his save percentage of 56.1 percent is fourth-best in the conference among starting netminders.
- Junior defender Seamus Boyle posted four caused turnovers against Lycoming on Saturday, the most of any player this season for the Monarchs and a career-high for him.
A Look At The Colonials (2-1, 0-0 Little East):
- The Colonials of Western Connecticut State went 6-9 a season ago, but have started 2019 with a 2-1 record having started the season with wins over The Sage Colleges and Mt. St. Mary College.
- Freshman Donald Schaumloffel leads the Colonials and Little East in goals with nine this season, also tying for the team-lead with six assists. He has scored on 81.8 percent of his shots this year.
- Senior Robert Swensen has potted eight goals as well for WCSU, while Eric Caldwell leads the team with 41 shots while adding five goals and six assists.
- Junior Ryan Reuling also has five goals and six assists on the season, and junior Christian Sparacino has six scores and three helpers.
- Junior defender Matthew Kolasinski leads the team with 10 caused turnovers and 14 ground balls, while the Colonials have forced 37 turnovers this year.
- Face-off specialist Ryan Yursha is 37-of-63 this season, posting 17 ground balls as well.
- Sophomore Perry Cassidy leads the Little East in save percentage with a 60.7 save rate, while also posting the second-best goals against average in the league allowing just 8.23 goals per game.
- Wednesday's game with Western Connecticut is the first time these two teams have played each other.
