Forgash Wins Twice At Messiah Invitational

GRANTHAM, PA (April 13, 2019) – Mitchell Forgash won the 400 and 800 to lead the King's College men's outdoor track and field team to an eighth-place finish at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday.

Frostburg State University topped the field of 19 scoring teams with 128 points while Mount Saint Mary College was second with 113 points. Host Messiah College was third with 105 points, Lebanon Valley College was fourth with 72 points, and York College of Pennsylvania rounded out the top five with 59 points. King's scored 40.5 points.

On the Track
100 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou ran a school record time of 11.06 seconds to finish third in the field of 43 to score six points. The sophomore qualified for the final with the sixth fastest time of 11.22 seconds to win the fourth of seven heats. He beat his previous school record of 11.18 seconds and his previous best wind-aided career best time of 11.13 seconds at Susquehanna two weeks ago. Frostburg State sophomore Clayton Washington had the best time in prelims running 11.05 in the third heat and then ran that same exact time again in the final to finish second. Messiah junior Brendan Provan ran 10.96 seconds to win after qualifying with a time of 11.14 seconds in the first of seven heats. Chibuikem Anyachebelu finished 20th overall and fourth in the fourth heat with a career best time of 11.84 seconds. James Powell lowered his career best time for the third consecutive meet running 13.23 seconds in the first heat.

200 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou ran 22.82 seconds for the third time in his career and second this year to finish 10th out of 56. The sophomore equaled his career best time while finishing seventh in the eighth and final heat. Oumar Diawara won the heat and the meet with a time of 22.29 seconds while Alfred freshman Alex Spicer was second in 22.30 seconds. Chibuikem Anyachebelu was second in the third heat with a career best time of 24.79 seconds. York freshman Connor Hurst won the heat in 24.50 seconds. Freshman Kris Boxter ran his season best time to win the second heat in 24.98 seconds. James Powell ran a career best time of 27.68 seconds in the first heat which was won by Anthony Carter of Elizabethtown in 26.37 seconds.

400 Meter Dash
Mitchell Forgash won his second invitational of the year in 50.31 seconds to score 10 points. The freshman outkicked E-Town freshman Sam Niles who finished in 50.73. Kris Boxter ran a season best time of 55.13 seconds to finish third in the second of four heats. Derrick Peterson won the heat in 53.65 seconds. There were 22 sprinters in the field.

800 Meter Run
Mitchell Forgash used a fantastic second lap to win his second event of the day in a school record time of 1:55.09. The freshman was last in the 10-runner heat at the halfway point and passed all nine runners in the final 400 meters. In the process he also lowered his previous school record time of 1:58.07 from the Jim Taylor Invitational. Messiah sophomore Matthew Royer was second in 1:55.19. Daniel Michels was third in the first heat with a career best time of 2:10.77. The sophomore just barely beat his previous best time from two weeks ago. Frostburg State sophomore Devin Horseman-Guy won the heat in 2:05.53. There were 37 runners in the field.

1500 Meter Run
Daniel Michels ran another career best time of 4:27.85 to win the first of three heats. The sophomore won his heat by five seconds and finished 26th overall out of 40. Robert Romano of Frostburg State won with a time of 3:55.67 while Messiah senior Benjamin Schott was second in 3:59.10.

5000 Meters
Matt Schoch beat his career best time by 12 seconds to finish 16th out of 28 in 17:40.22. Messiah had the top two times with Kyler Shea winning gold in 15:33.83 and Nate Romberger coming in second at 15:50.48.

10000 Meters
Michael Duncklee qualified for the MAC Championships and was four seconds shy of the school record with a time of 35:35.14. The senior finished fifth in the six-runner field to score four points. Juniata had the top two finishers in Desmond O'Donovan with a time of 33:26.19 and Evan Ulrich with a time of 34:04.27.
 
Field Events
Pole Vault
Zachary Matson reached his career best height for the second straight meet as the freshman cleared 3.45 meters (11'3.75") to finish in a tie for seventh out of 15 and score 1.5 points. Matson cleared 3.15 meters and 3.30 meters on his first try at each height. It took him three attempts to it 3.45 meters before missing at all three tries at 3.60 meters. Dan Cornelius had the best height of the day clearing 4.05 meters (13'3.5"). Blaine Wike of Thaddeus Stevens was second at 3.75 meters (12'3.5")

Long Jump
Matthew Nelson came very close to the school record while jumping a career best 6.22 meters (20'5") on his second jump to finish ninth out of 27. Nelson had marks of 5.74 meters, 5.93 meters, 5.67 meters, 5.96 meters, and 6.11 meters on his other attempts. Alvernia freshman Julian Braddock won with a mark of 6.86 meters (22'6.25") on his fifth jump while MSMC sophomore Sean Fahey was second at 6.85 meters (22'5.75") on his first try.

Shot Put
King-Shakim Rose finished ninth out of 34 with a school record toss of 13.69 meters (44'11") on his fifth attempt of the day. Rose beat Justin Le Cadre's mark of 13.43 meters at the Golden Ram Invitational earlier this year. The freshman recorded marks of 12.89 meters, 12.83 meters, a foul, 13.54 meters, and 13.46 meters on his other five attempts. Justin Le Cadre had a mark of 12.57 meters (41'3") on his second toss to finish 12th. He fouled on his first attempt and then hit 12.06 meters on his third. Mount Saint Mary junior Matthew Selba won with a throw of 15.40 meters (50'6.25") on his fifth toss. LVC's Trent Donlan was second with a mark of 15.15 meters (49'8.5") on is third attempt.

Discus
On Friday afternoon Justin Le Cadre broke the school record in the rain while finishing sixth out of 35 throwers to score three points. Le Cadre had a mark of 42.30 meters (138'9") on his second attempt which surpasses the previous record of 41.44 meters held by Tyler Maxwell. The freshman started with a throw of 37.80 meters before hitting his best mark of the day. He fouled on his third attempt and then hit 40.17 meters, 41.47 meters, and 41.88 meters in the finals. King-Shakim Rose finished eighth to score one point with a mark of 37.70 meters (123'8") on his sixth and final throw. The freshman qualified for the finals with a mark of 37.69 meters on his second throw and fouled on his other four tosses. Mount Saint Mary had the top two throwers as juniors Alexander Devine and Matthew Selba scored 18 points. Devine had a mark of 47.97 meters (157'4") on his sixth attempt while Selba threw 44.23 meters (145'1") on his first.

Hammer
Jackie Ni finished fourth out of 38 to score five points with a throw of 45.04 meters (147'9") on his second attempt. The sophomore hit 42.42 meters and 43.01 meters on his other two attempts in the prelims. He fouled on all three tries in the finals. Frostburg had the top two in the field as John Kerns won with a mark of 51.62 meters (169'4") on his fourth toss and Michael Belcher was second with a mark of 48.60 meters (159'5") on his last throw of the day. Justin Le Cadre and King-Shakim Rose were 13th and 14th with nearly identical marks. Le Cadre threw 39.69 meters (130'2") on his third attempt after throwing 37.69 meters and 37.46 meters on his first two. Rose fouled on his first two attempts before hitting 39.65 meters (130'1") on his third toss.
 
King's will host the first of two home meets this year on Wednesday and Thursday. The Monarchs will compete in the Inaugural Holiday Invitational at Betzler Field starting Wednesday afternoon with a couple of throws, jumps, and the 10K. All other events will be on Thursday.
