WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 1, 2019) – The King's College men's lacrosse team looks to gain their third straight win of the season against local rival Wilkes University this Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. This home matchup against the Colonels opens up conference play for the Monarchs.

Last Time Out: The King's College men's lacrosse team gained their second win of the season with a 12-4 triumph over host Immaculata University in non-conference play at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Monarchs saw goals from seven players, led by junior
Jared Gambino and sophomore
Alec Martin who each scored a hat trick. Sophomore
Michael O'Brien finished with two goals and two assists, and sophomore
Charlie Alessi tallied a goal, two assists, and two caused turnovers.
The King's offense had one of their best games, finishing with a total of 53 shots, which was the most since taking 53 against Lycoming College back on March 12, 2017.
The defensive unit for the Monarchs also proved strong, as senior goalkeeper
Matt Basile made nine saves on 26 shots. Junior
Jacob Wrede and sophomore
Sam Moyer each finished with three caused turnovers and two ground balls apiece. Sophomore
Chris Surina also tallied two caused giveaways, while senior
Ryan Matusiewicz posted two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
A Look At The Monarchs (2-6, 0-0 MAC Freedom):
- Sophomore Gabe Vansuch continues to lead the offense for the Monarchs as he tallies 17 points off of 15 goals and two assists. Jared Gambino is not far behind with 16 points from 12 goals and four assists.
- Fellow sophomore Trevor Douenias paces the midfield for King's with 44 groundballs and 71 total face-off wins. His groundball per game average of 5.50 ranks 10th in the conference and his faceoff percentage of .473 is 18th in the MAC Freedom.
- Jacob Wrede leads the defense for the Monarchs with 12 caused turnovers, which also ranks 11th in the conference.
- Charlie Alessi leads the team in assists on the year, having eight. His one assist per game puts him at 14th in the conference. Senior Brian Steiger is close by with his seven assists on the season.
- Senior netminder Matt Basile leads the conference in saves per game with his 115 saves over eight games, giving him a saves per game of 14.38.
A Look At The Colonels (6-3, 0-0 MAC Freedom):
- The Colonels are currently riding a three-game winning streak and hope to keep it alive, last defeating Mount Saint Mary College (NY) 21-7. Before that, they toppled Alvernia University 17-11 and Wells College 22-7.
- John Wink leads the offense with 64 points on 42 goals and 22 assists on the season.
- JT Weitzel acts as the spearhead for the Colonels defense so far, with 6 caused turnovers and 36 ground balls scooped up.
- Jack O'Connell and Jake Chittem also have 6 caused turnovers on the season, and O'Connell has picked up 24 ground balls so far.
- Carter Whittermore has been the main goalkeeper for the Colonels with over 309 minutes of play this season. He has 75 saves and his save percentage of .591 ranks 4th in the MAC Freedom.
- Daniel Cox has also been a great netminder, leading the conference in goals against with an average of 6.93 on the season. He has a save percentage of .606, ranking him 3rd in conference play.
Against Wilkes All-Time: King's has a 2-1 all-time record against the Colonels, last defeating them 12-6 in 2017. Before that, they beat the Colonels 16-5 in 2016. Their most recent encounter went to Wilkes last year as the Monarchs fell 12-5.
