WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 27, 2019) – The King's College men's outdoor track and field team had a great day in the squad's final tune-up meet in the Second Annual Monarch Open at Betzler Fields in Wilkes-Barre. The Monarchs competed against local rivals Keystone College, Misericordia University, and University of Scranton on a very windy Saturday.

On the Track
100 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou won for the third time this year and second on King's home track with a time of 11.66 seconds to top the field of 15. The sophomore qualified for the finals with the fastest time in the first of three heats at 11.47 seconds. Scranton sophomore Andrew Charway finished second to Edoukou for the second straight week with a time of 11.70 in the finals after winning the second heat in 11.55 seconds. Michael Dube, an unattached runner, was third in 12.13 seconds. Jarod Cipriano of Misericordia ran 11.76 seconds to defeat
Mikal Butler in the third heat as the junior ran 11.94 seconds. However, in the final Butler finished ahead of Cipriano to finish fourth in 12.26 seconds.
Chibuikem Anyachebelu was third in the third heat and just missed the final to finish ninth overall with a time of 12.29 seconds.
James Powell was fifth in the heat with a time of 13.34 seconds.
200 Meter Dash
Scranton's Andrew Charway topped the field of 12 with a time of 23.19 seconds in the first of three heats. Misericordia senior Olutobi Olugbenga was second in 23.42 seconds while Michael Dube was third in 23.84 seconds. Dube won the second heat while Josiah Marquez of Scranton won the third heat in 25.74 seconds.
400 Meter Dash
Jacob Frazier of Keystone topped the field of five with a time of 52.73 seconds. His senior teammate Mark Arzie was second in 53.06 seconds while Thomas Canny of Scranton was third in 56.29 seconds.
Kris Boxter finished fourth in 58.03 seconds.
800 Meter Run
Mitchell Forgash ran a second faster than last week to win his third meet of the year in 1:59.10. The freshman was able to beat Scranton sophomore Matt Kinback down the final straightaway as Kinback crossed the line in 1:59.54. Keystone freshman Cameren Brice was third in 2:01.87.
Daniel Michels was eighth in the first of two heats and ninth overall with a time of 2:12.42 while
Steffen Hude was second in the second heat with a time of 2:13.48. Scranton freshman Ryan Maguire won the heat in 2:11.44.
1500 Meter Run
Misericordia took home the four of the top five spots in the field of nine with freshman Madden Doud edging junior teammate and last week's event winner Zachary Davis at the line. Doud had a time of 4:16.65 while Davis crossed in 4:16.78. with a career. Scranton sophomore Eric Bartlett was third in 4:20.54.
Michael Duncklee ran 4:39.83 as the only Monarch in the field. The senior just missed his career best by two seconds in his final collegiate race as an individual.
5000 Meters
Scranton had seven of the eight runners in the field and took home the top four spots. Freshman Shane McKeon won with a meet record time of 16:03.23 beating the previous record of 16:08.91 run by Max Greene of Scranton last year. Zachary Gutenkunst was second in 16:03.88 while Jack Patwell was third in 16:18.73.
110 Meter Hurdles
Wesley Hill of Misericordia defended his title as the Monarch Open Champion with a time of 17.17 seconds in the field of four. Scranton freshman Brian Madden was second in 18.27 seconds while Misericordia sophomore was third in 19.14 seconds.
400 Meter Hurdles
Misericordia's Devin Oyola just missed lowering his meet and complex record with a time of 57.68 seconds to win in the field of six. Senior teammate Wesley Hill was second in 1:01.28 while Scranton freshman Brain Madden was third in 1:03.21.
3000 Meter Steeplechase
Christopher Sabol, a Misericordia junior, ran a meet and complex record of 10:17.35 to defeat Devin Diehl. Sabol just beat the time of 10:23.31 that Kenny Deloff of Eastern ran last year. Diehl, a Keystone freshman ran 12:01.49.
4x100 Meter Relay
Keystone's Eddie Sichilongo, Alexander Hernandez, Nicholas Stanton, and Yaw Acheampong beat three other teams to win in 44.81 seconds. The Monarchs had two teams competing as the "A" team finished second in 45.22 seconds while the "B" team ran 47.96 seconds.

Emmanuel Edoukou led off for each team before handing off to
Chibuikem Anyachebelu and
Matthew Nelson.
James Powell and
Kris Boxter were the third legs before
Mitchell Forgash and
Michael Duncklee ran the anchor legs. The fourth team in the race was a group of Monarch coaches.
4x400 Meter Relay
Keystone had the best time in the field of three as Eddie Sichilongo, Mark Arzie, Cameren Brice, and Alexander Hernandez ran a meet and complex record time of 3:29.02. They lowered the meet record time of 3:47.95 that the first two legs ran last year and the complex record time of 3:37.90 that Misericordia ran last week. The Cougars also beat their time from last week running 3:34.05 to finish second. King's team of
Mitchell Forgash, Kris Boxer,
Randill De Asis, and
Daniel Michels ran 3:47.87 to finish third. Forgash gave the Monarchs the early lead with a strong 400 to begin the race.
4x800 Meter Relay
The Monarch team of
Steffen Hude,
Michael Duncklee,
Daniel Michels, and
Randill De Asis ran 9:19.06 to defeat Keystone. The Giants ran 11:01.16.
Field Events
High Jump
Misericordia had the only two jumpers in the meet as freshman Michael Schwartz was able to defeat classmate Bryce Steele by 2". Schwartz jumped 1.60 meters (5'3") while Steele cleared 1.55 meters (5'1").
Long Jump
Misericordia senior Olutobi Olugbenga won with a wind-aided mark of 6.52 meters (21'4.75") on his first jump of the day. Scranton sophomore Mark Merli was second with a wind-aided mark of 6.27 meters (20'7") on his third jump while Nicholas Stanton of Keystone was third with a wind-aided mark of 6.15 meters (20'2.25") on his second attempt.
Matthew Nelson was fourth and also had a wind-aided mark of 5.85 meters (19'2.5") on his fourth jump. The sophomore hit 5.81 meters, 5.83 meters, and 4.92 meters on his first three attempts. He jumped 5.72 meters on his fifth try before fouling on his last attempt.
Triple Jump
Olutobi Olugbenga won his second jumping event of the day with a mark of 13.63 meters (44'8.75") on his fourth and final jump. All five jumpers only took four jumps instead of six. Eddie Sichilongo of Keystone was second with a wind-aided mark of 13.23 meters (43'5") on his second attempt while Michael Schwartz of MU was third with a wind-aided mark of 11.72 meters (38'5.5") on his second jump.
Shot Put
King-Shakim Rose topped the field of eight with a meet record throw of 13.21 meters (43'4.25) on his second attempt. The freshman bettered the mark of 12.88 meters that Evan Jones of Misericordia had to win last year's meet. Rose had a mark of 12.69 meters on his first attempts before fouling on his last four throws. Phil Cocco of Scranton finished second with a mark of 13.12 meters (43'0.5) on his second attempt. Sam Marcel of Misericordia was third with a throw of 12.50 meters (41'0.25") on his sixth toss while defending champion Evan Jones was fourth with a mark of 12.44 meters (40'9.75") on his fifth attempt of the day.
Kevin Wrobleski recorded a mark of 8.00 meters (26'3") on his fifth attempt as the freshman looks to qualify for next weekend's decathlon at the MAC Championships. Wrobleski fouled on his first attempt and then hit marks of 6.76 meters, 7.01 meters, 7.38 meters, 8.00 meters, and 7.67 meters.
Discus
The Monarchs had the top three marks in the field of 13 as
Izuchukwu Mozie won with a mark of 41.51 meters on his first throw to set the meet record. The discus was canceled due to weather at last year's Monarch Open. Mozie hit 40.88 meters on his second throw and then passed on his third. In the finals he fouled on two attempts before finishing up with a mark of 40.26 meters on his last throw.
Justin Le Cadre was second with a mark of 41.00 meters (134'6") on his fourth attempt. The freshman fouled on his first and fifth throws while hitting marks of 36.37 meters, 38.41 meters, and 40.52 meters.
King-Shakim Rose was third for the second straight week with a toss of 37.40 meters (122'8") on his fifth attempt. The freshman fouled on his first two and final throw while hitting 36.08 meters and 37.33 meters before his best throw of the day.
Jackie Ni had a mark of 34.99 meters (114'9") on his second attempt to finish seventh. The sophomore fouled on three of his first four throws before finishing with marks of 32.16 meters and 32.37 meters.
Kevin Wrobleski threw 21.95 meters (72'0") on his first and only attempt of the day. The freshman passed on his other two turns as he is looking to qualify for the decathlon at next weekend's MAC Championships.
Hammer
King's the top three in the field of eight as sophomore
Jackie Ni won for the second consecutive meet with a school, meet, and complex record throw of 50.90 meters (167'0") on his first attempt. Ni bettered
Tyler Maxwell's school record of 49.28 meters at East Stroudsburg last year and Maxwell's throw of 48.33 meters he threw at the Monarch Open. The sophomore hit 49.34 meters and 47.75 meters on his other two throws in the prelims before fouling on all three tosses in the finals.
King-Shakim Rose was second with a season best mark of 45.53 meters (149'4") on his first attempt. The freshman fouled on his second, third, and sixth attempts and hit 44.20 meters and 43.50 meters.
Justin Le Cadre threw a season best 43.63 meters (143'2") on his sixth attempt to finish third. Le Cadre hit marks of 39.44 meters, 36.73 meters, 37.70 meters, and 39.67 meters while fouling on his fourth throw.
Javelin
Connor Ruhl, an unattached athlete, had the best mark in a field of 17 at 51.34 meters (168'5") on his first throw of the day. Lukas Schubert-Brown of Misericordia had the top collegiate mark at 48.09 meters (157'9") on his first throw of the day to finish second. Mike Ryan, another unattached athlete was third with a mark of 45.64 meters (149'9") on his sixth throw.
Matthew Nelson had a mark of 37.27 meters (122'3") on his fifth throw to finish seventh. The sophomore threw 34.59 meters, 35.90 meters, and 36.38 meters on his first three attempts. He fouled on his other two attempts in the finals.
Kevin Wrobleski fouled on two of his three tosses but hit 24.70 meters (81'0") on his second throw of the day.
King's will next compete in the Middle Atlantic Championships next weekend at Widener University from Thursday to Saturday.
