Monarch Throwers Have Monarchs In Fifth After First Day Of MAC Championships

CHESTER, PA (May 2, 2019) – Jackie Ni, King-Shakim Rose, and Justin Le Cadre scored 15 points in the hammer to lead the Monarchs to fifth place after day one of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship in Chester.

DeSales University is leading the team competition with 24 points while Eastern University is second with 19 points. Host Widener University is third with 17 points followed by Stevenson University with 16 points. Lebanon Valley College is sixth, two points behind the Monarchs with 13 while Messiah College has scored nine points to sit seventh. Misericordia University is eighth with two points and Manhattanville College and Alvernia University has scored a point each to tie for ninth. No other team has scored a point in the three-day competition.
 
On the Track
10000 Meters
Monarch senior Michael Duncklee ran a time of 36:01.74 to finish 25th out of 29 runners in his first individual event of his career at the conference championships. Greg Thomas, a senior from Eastern won with a time of 30:57.93 while Stevenson junior Patrick Watson was second in 31.26.16. Widener junior Franklin Livolsi was third in 31:47.32 just edging classmate Matthew Kazanjian at the line. Kazanjian ran 31:47.34.

4x800 Meter Relay
The Monarch team of Mitchell Forgash, Michael Duncklee, Randill De Asis, and Daniel Michels ran nearly 50 seconds faster than their seed time of 9:19.06 but were unable to score any points finishing ninth in 8:30.91. The squad was only 14 seconds off the school record time of 8:17.37 run at last year's Championship. DeSales won in 7:44.91 with the team of Nick Cauley, Joseph Wells, Patrick Ludlow, and Matthew Kraus. The Eastern squad of Rusty Batykefer Steven Payne, Milan Sharma, and Jhaunell Burnside was second in 7:46.67 while Messiah was third in 7:47.82 with the quartet of Alex Scheib, Ryan Thurber, Brandin Dyche, and Matthew Royer.
 
Field Events
Hammer
The Monarchs scored 15 points with a second, fourth, and seventh place finish. Jackie Ni earned All-MAC Second Team honors with a second-place finish in the field of 18 with a mark of 50.58 meters (165'11") on his second throw to score eight points. The sophomore started with a toss of 42.80 meters before throwing his best mark of the day. He fouled on his third and sixth attempts while recording marks of 48.80 meters and 47.78 meters on his other two tosses. King-Shakim Rose threw a season best 45.86 meters (150'5") on his third attempt to finish fourth and score five points. The freshman beat his previous best of 45.53 meters (149'4") that he threw last week. Rose had marks of 44.18 meters and 44.07 meters on his first two throws. In the finals he fouled on his fourth and sixth throws but hit 41.66 meters on his middle attempt. Justin Le Cadre scored two points in seventh with a mark of 41.63 meters (136'7") on his fourth toss. The freshman threw 40.91 meters, 40.01 meters, and 41.38 meters to qualify for the finals. After his best throw of the day he fouled and then hit 40.88 meters on his last attempt. DeSales junior Chris Brinkman won with a career best mark of 52.36 meters (171'9") on his third attempt. His previous best was 51.78 meters (169'10"). Lebanon Valley freshman Garry Wrobleski was third with a season best mark of 46.48 meters (152'6") on his first throw. Wrobleski entered with a seed throw of 45.99 meters (150'11") which was fourth in the conference.

Decathlon
Kevin Wrobleski has scored 2121 points after the first day of competition to sit in 12th place out of 13 competitors. The freshman started with a career best time of 12.86 seconds in the 100 meters to score 492 points. His previous best was 13.31 seconds. Wrobleski finished seventh in the second of two heats as Stevenson sophomore Rictchie Case won with the day's fastest time of 11.28 seconds to score 799 points. In the long jump Wrobleski record a mark of 5.09 meters (16'8.50") on his first jump to score 400 points. He recorded marks of 5.03 meters and 5.01 meters on his other two jumps. Eastern freshman Azel Foster had the best jump in the field with a mark of 6.81 meters (22'4.25") on his third attempt to score 769 points. Azel took the lead over Case 1540-1476 after two events while Wrobleski moved up to 12th with 892 points.

Wrobleski recorded another season best mark in the shot put with a distance of 8.16 meters (26'9.25") on his first attempt to score 376 points. His previous best was 8.00 meters (26'3") last week at the Monarch Open. The freshman had throws of 7.61 meters and 7.10 meters on his other two throws. Case took the lead back with the best throw of the day at 10.53 meters (34'6.75") on his first attempt to score 518 points. After three events, Case held a 1994-1962 lead over Foster while Wrobleski stayed 12th with 1268 points. The freshman jumped a season best 1.41 meters (4'7.5") in the high jump to score 324 points besting his previous best height of 1.35 meters (4.5") from the Holiday Invitational. Wrobleski cleared 1.29 meters, 1.32 meters, 1.35 meters, 1.38 meters, and 1.41 meters on his first try before missing 1.44 meters. Foster jumped 1.83 meters (6'0") to score 653 points topping Case who jumped 1.80 meters (5'10.75") to score 627 points. Foster closed the gap a little bit but Case still led 2621-2615 after the fourth event while Wrobleski moved down to 13th with 1592 points.

In the final event of the day, the 400 meters, Wrobleski ran a season best time of 56.78 seconds to score 529 points. The freshman finished fifth in the second of two heats with the 10th fastest time. His previous best time was 58.59 seconds run at the Holiday Invitational. Case won the first heat with the fastest time of the day at 50.26 seconds to score 803 points. Foster won the second heat in 52.11 seconds to score 720 points. Case has 3434 points midway through to lead the competition. Foster is a close second with 3335 points. Alvernia's Adam Loehr is third with 2963 points, Caleb Puleo of Messiah is fourth with 2947 points, and Hood's Frederick Roberts is fifth with 2869 points. Wrobleski moved up to 12th after the fifth event with his 2121 points. He is 50 points shy of Timothy Nilsen of Widener is 11th at 2171 points and nearly 100 points clear of Trevor Keefer of Alvernia in 13th place with 2033 points. The two-day event will finish up tomorrow with the 110  hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500 meters.

The Middle Atlantic Championships will continue tomorrow with the second day of the three-day meet.
