King's Men's Swimming Finishes Dual Season With 114-88 Win Over Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 1, 2020) -- The final dual meet of the 2019-20 season worked out perfectly for head coach Matt Easterday and his King's College men's swimming team, knocking off local rival Wilkes University 114-88 in action from the Wyoming Valley CYC Saturday afternoon. 

Freshman Jared Stephan had another big day for the Monarchs, as he earned three more individual victories. In the opening race of the day, Joel Williams, Kris Boxter, Christopher Dionne and Anthony Macko swam a 1:41.54 to nip Wilkes in the 200 medley relay. 

In the first individual event of the day, freshman Erik Aguero swam a strong 10:54.75 to earn a victory, while Christopher Boucher was just off his season best with a 11:01.01 in second place. 

The opening swim of the day for Stephan was in the 200 freestyle, as he earned the win with a personal-best time of 1:47.85 in an eight-second victory. Dionne would take second in the 50 free with a season-best 22.97, while Ryan Bixler posted a 24.27 for a personal-best time. 

In the 200 IM, Alex Schwartz swam one of the best races of his King's career, finishing with a personal-best 2:11.69, four percent faster than his previous top time. Boxter was fourth with a 2:13.06. also chalking up a new season-best. 

The 100 butterfly saw Aguero finish second with a season-best time of 57.01, and Dionne registered a season-best 50.35 in the 100 free for a victory. Stephan would roll to a 100 backstroke win after swimming a 57.79, and Williams was right behind him with a season-best time of 58.15. 

Aguero posted another distance free win, this time taking the 500 freestyle with a 5:18.44, while Boucher posted a season-best 5:19.40 to finish second. The last win for Stephan was in the 100 breaststroke, and the freshman posted a new personal best time of 1:01.58, as Boxter was second with a 1:02.17. 

King's would finish second in the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:33.70, just barely getting outtouched by Wilkes at the wall by 0.05 seconds. Despite that, King s earned seven wins and nine second place finishes on the day to secure the win. 

The Monarchs (6-4) will now rest in anticipation for the four-day Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships, starting Thursday, February 13 at 10 a.m. at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, PA.
