WILKES-BARRE, PA (July 29, 2024) -- Rebekka Ricca, widely known as Coach Bekky, has become an integral part of King's College's thriving Esports program and is preparing for her third season on the staff in 2024-25.
Originally from Holland, Pa., Ricca came to King's to pursue higher education and graduated in May 2022 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and secondary education.
After completing her studies, Ricca joined the college's IITS Department and continues to work as a member of the User Support Services Team, dedicating herself to enhancing the institution's technological framework. However, her passion for student engagement and her drive to contribute more directly to the student experience led her to the Esports arena. Recognizing the potential of Esports to foster teamwork, strategic thinking, and school spirit, Ricca sought a bigger role to be involved with the program.
Her dedication and enthusiasm were quickly recognized, and in the fall of 2022, she took on the role of Assistant Coach. Since stepping into this position, Ricca has guided her teams to remarkable achievements, including three championship titles. Under her leadership, the program has not only seen competitive success but has also celebrated the personal milestones of its members, including their graduation and future career plans.
"Ricca has been a natural fit for Esports, leveraging her dedication to student success and passion for technology to greatly benefit the program," stated Director of Esports Adam Sebolka. "Her daily responsibilities span operations, match preparation, and academic mentorship, earning her the affectionate title of 'mom' from the team."
Ricca's journey from a graduate to a key figure in the Monarch Esports program is a testament to her commitment to student development and the growing significance of Esports in collegiate environments. Her story continues to inspire both current and future students, demonstrating the diverse pathways available within the College Community.
