Men's Track and Field Opens Season with Nine Individual Wins at Monarch Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 22, 2025) -- In their outdoor season opener, the King's College men's outdoor track and field team claimed nine first-place finishes at their annual Monarch Invitational at the Betzler Outdoor Track.
 
On the Track
100 Meter Dash

Jacob Mullery was the top finisher in 11.56 seconds.
 
800 Meter Run
Tyler Petty and Presto Klem took second and third, respectively, in the event as Petty crossed in 2:03.47 and Klem posted a time of 2:06.58. John Gillespie rounded out the trio in fifth with at ime of 2:10.77. Jack Baronski of Marywood won the race in 2:02.14.
 
1,500 Meter Run
Joey Rossi led a pair of Monarchs as he took fourth in 4:33.71, while Logan Taylor placed ninth in 4:59.88. Marywood's Jack Baronski was the top finisher in 4:15.78.
 
400 Meter Hurdles
Josh Malone won the event in 1:01.19.
 
4x100 Meter Relay
The King's team of Kival Clarke, Kreese Stablein, Jordan Jones, and Jacob Mullery took first in a Monarch Invite record time of 43.77 seconds, while the squad of Alek Gorski, Andrew Novrocki, Philliph Oden, and Josh Malone finished third in 45.08 seconds.
 
4x400 Meter Relay
The King's team of Alek Gorski, Owen Foytack, Tyler Petty, and Andrew Novrocki won the event in a Monarch Invite and Betzler Track facility record time of 3:27.38, while the team of Travis Lane, Ben Wnuk, Preston Klem, and James Holzschuh took second in 3:41.02.
 
In the Field
Long Jump

King's took the top seven spots in the event, led by Jordan Jones with a jump of 6.56 meters on his fourth attempt, while Cody Miller finished second with a mark of 6.16 meters on his fourth try. Kival Clarke placed third with a jump of 6.14 meters on his first attempt, and Myles Sampson-Glass was fourth with a personal best mark of 6.13 meters on his first try. Philliph Oden finished fifth with a jump of 5.95 meters on his first attempt, and James Holzschuh placed sixth with a mark of 5.81 meters on his second jump. Kreese Stablein rounded out the group with a jump of 5.79 meters on his first try to finish seventh.
 
Triple Jump
The Monarchs claimed the first three spots, led by Myles Sampson-Glass with a personal best mark of 12.75 meters on his first try, while Cody Miller finished second with a jump of 12.49 meters on two separate jumps. Kival Clarke finished out the trio with a mark of 11.97 meters on his third attempt
 
Discus Throw
It was a King's-heavy event with nine Monarchs competing, led by Carnell Kemp in first with a Monarch Invite record mark of 44.09 meters on his fourth attempt. Josh Brown placed fourth with a toss of 35.24 meters on his sixth try, and Joseph Schneider finished sixth with a mark of 31.96 meters on his fifth attempt. Travis Lane placed seventh with a throw of 31.36 meters on his third toss, and Tyler Bird made his collegiate debut with a toss of 30.79 meters on his final throw to place eighth. Gian Ovalles finished with a throw of 30.28 meters on his fourth attempt, and Daniel Mattey posted a mark of 29.27 meters on his third throw. Jev Brauer (27.71 meters) and Brady Rutkoski (27.55 meters) finished off the event for King's.
 
Hammer Throw
King's claimed the top three spots in the event, led by Carnell Kemp in first with a mark of 42.66 meters on his first try. Brady Rutkoski finished with a toss of 33.83 meters on his fifth attempt, while Joseph Schneider took third with a mark of 30.65 meters on his second throw.
 
Javelin Throw
Tyler Bird won the event with a mark of 51.60 meters on his second throw, while Travis Lane took second with a toss of 49.28 meters on his sixth toss. Gian Ovalles placed fifth with a throw of 39.13 meters on his fifth attempt, and Brady Rutkoski claimed seventh with a mark of 35.28 meters on his third try.
 
Shot Put
Carnell Kemp led the field for King's again, taking second with a mark of 12.58 meters on his third attempt, while Gian Ovalles finished third with a throw of 11.92 meters on his third attempt. Travis Lane placed fifth with a toss of 10.83 meters on his sixth try, and Joseph Schneider claimed sixth with a throw of 10.45 meters on his first toss. Daniel Mattey was right behind in seventh with a mark of 10.43 meters on his first attempt, and Jev Brauer finished with a personal best toss of 9.72 meters on his first throw. Brady Rutkoski recorded a mark of 9.50 meters on his first attempt, and Kaleb Beers made his collegiate debut and posted a throw of 9.08 meters on his third try. Joseph Teresi of FDU-Florham won the event with a mark of 14.33 meters.

The Monarchs are set to compete at Widener University next Friday and Saturday in the annual Danny Curan Invitational.
